My new addition to my collection, I picked it up last weekend. All the stores in California are empty, I am glad I picked it up when I did. I went and took it to the range the day I got it and and man does it shoot good. I posted a picture of one of my target from 9 yards away.

Glock 19 Gen 4 issues

First, was wondering if anyone can help me with issues I'm having with my Glock 19 Gen 4. I am having frequent FTE (failures to eject) with 115gr range ammo, mainly PMC and Winchester. It is of the "stovepipe" variety, with weak ejections to the face if it doesn't jam. Stovepipes happens I would say 1 in 100 rounds, and ejections to the face 1 in 10 times. I think I may have one of the early Gen 4(s) as I have owned it for about 4 years now. Glock is sending me a new spring, but I'm not sure it will solve the problem as mine comes with the spring most internet discussions deems the best one to solve these issues.

Second, if I do not solve the issues with this gun, I am looking fo replace it. What are the common alternatives to the Glock 19? I am looking at the HK VP9, Walther PPQ, maybe even another G19 Gen 4 in FDE. Any other guns worth taking a look at? I already own a M&P Shield for CCW, so I don't need the gun to be the exact same size as the G19. Prefer 9mm.

Does it have to be striker fired? HK & Sig are my top two choices, but you're dropping your list to very little when you eliminate the hammer guns. The USP, P30, and P226 & P229 would be my top suggestions. If you're sticking with striker fired then the XD is missing from your list along with the Steyr M9 or S9. I've wanted to get a S9 as an inexpensive truck gun for a while, but can never find someone who has one in stock when I want to buy one. I love the trapezoidal sights on the things, they just naturally fall into place.

I'd stay away from the PPQ, every one that I've put my hands on feels like there's a dead spot in the trigger for about 1/4" of travel before it breaks. I'm not a striker fired guy, but I don't recall that from any of the Glocks that I've shot.

If $600 is your price cap, forget HK or Sig. But the Steyr fits there if you can find one. I've shot Glock, XD, M&P, & Ruger SR9, and would suggest the Glock or XD over the others. I have yet to shoot the Steyr but would probably still pick it up over the others anyway.

I agree, I really want to love my Glock. I bought it for the it's reputation as the most reliable, utilitarian, SHTF gun out there. Tried to give it a chance for 4 years and the issues are finally getting to me. I would love for Glock to be able to fix the issues or offer a replacement as I definitely want to keep it in my lineup.

The HK VP9 can be had for around $600. Is the Sig SP2022 a good gun? That can be had for under $500.

I just bought a sig SP2022 for Christmas and I really like it so far. I have only shot it at the range once so far and went through the about 100 rounds. I posted some pictures of it in this thread about 8 posts ago.

You already have a Shield for CCW, so it sounds like the G19 is not your personal protection firearm. If that is true, and personal safety is not an issue, wait for the new spring from Glock, maybe try changing to another brand of range ammo and possibly save yourself $600.00. If you mainly just want a new gun, then you have received quite a few suggestions. Just remember to "try before you buy".

I have heard that many guns have problems with 115 gr. bullets, especially if they are low power. Try some decent 124 gr. loads.

That being said, do yourself a favor and take a look at the SIG P320 regardless of what happens with the Glock.

Followed the advice I got from [MENTION=92049]LandCruiser[/MENTION] a little while back, and "built" my very first AR!



Merry Christmas to me

14.5 BCM midlength Upper with flash hider, on a PSA Magpul lower. The fit and finish is amazing on both parts that I received. No slop anywhere except on the sliding component of the stock, and this is minimal.



The finished rifle with MOE handguard. I still need to install the rear MBUS iron sight, but that's it. So excited to start buying 5.56! :guitar3:

I have a Glock 19 and a custom built AR-15 that a buddy (gunsmith/coworker) helped me complete. I have some antiques as well but I don't claim them because I don't shoot them and they were family guns.:AK47:

Would post a pic of the 19 but it looks stock. Has a 3.5 LB trigger and an extended slide release. Great CC gun. Plan to get another Glock 21 again and maybe a Glock 26 for when I need a little tighter conceal. Being 5'6" 175 lbs is not always easy to conceal. The AR has a 12" rail, 45* mag fore grip, Aimpoint CCO, mag pistol grip, blackhawk stock, Mil grade BCG (plan to go nickel if I start shooting competitively), 16" barrel (4:1). May be adding a can as well along with a two stage trigger.

Wow, that is a wide open question. First and foremost, it has to be a weapon you can shoot well and are comfortable with.

After that, comes the concealability aspect. That varies widely by body type and wardrobe. Before you try to conceal anything other than a pocket gun, make sure you have a good gun belt, even if you will be carrying IWB you will appreciate the extra stiffness.

Now for the guns. There are a lot of great guns out there. Glocks and Springfield XDs are very popular right now. A lot of people still swear by 1911s or J frame revolvers. If you like traditional double action, then SIG and HK make great guns, but they can get a bit pricey.

My current home defense and concealed carry gun is the SIG P320. It is SIG’s first striker fired gun, and is in the same price range as the Glocks. Beyond having an excellent trigger, one of the really cool features of the P320 is the modularity which allows you to assemble it in four factory configurations, plus a couple of others that work great despite not being officially endorsed by SIG. Mine currently has a full size slide on a compact frame. The modularity also allows you to fearlessly work on the entire grip module, which would be called the frame on most guns. I have done some custom shaping and stippling on mine. If you mess it up, you can replace the entire thing for less than $50. I would have never had the courage to do that to a Glock frame.

I hope this helps. Find some friends with guns or a range that has a variety of rentals and try as many as you can.

I saw the new HK P30SK is in the Glock/XD price range. Its basically an updated more ergonomic version of the P2000SK that resides in my holster.
