Offroad front bumper??

I got a question to those with an offroad front bumper. Beside the fact it is way more rugged and can have a winch, do you really use the extra clearance despite the oem rear bumper? I mean, when I go offroad, the rear bumper/hitch/muffler always seems to be the problem. I'd like to have one but I can't figure out this question.

Thanks for the input.

Don't have an aftermarket front bumper *yet* but I do know they not only increase your approach angle on hills and obstacles, but also greatly increase clearance where your stock bumper would get in the way of bigger tires. Basically having an aftermarket bumper can mean the difference between rubbing, and not rubbing at all with some clearance. There are alot of other factors that go with what I just said tho--lift, tire size, etc

hope that helps

You are correct the rear muffler/ tail pipe seems to hit ... Stock ... and With After market bumpers ..as with anything ,you change front /rear bumpers due to limits with stock stuff... You do the same with aftermarket ..go find the limit as you see in the pic even with added rear clearance if you dont move the exhaust it will still get smashed ..on the front you get after market bumper for more clearance then you now need full skids because you can go more places then sliders etc. But they are well worth it if you off road alot.

That could be a useful weapon in a war! Certainly looks good.

That's my point, with the front and rear you're good to go. I was just wondering when only the front is installed if it really helps offroad.

This is why I opted to replace my rear bumper first...my backend was bottoming out a lot when off-roading. I ordered a CBI rear bumper with swingout and will hopefully have it by end of May.

I also damaged my tailpipe. I plan to order a Gibson catback exhaust and have it aiming out the side instead of the rear.

Later this year, I'll replace the front bumper and get a winch.

I am all for aftermarket bumpers. However, the ability to run larger tires is not a huge advantage. You will run into problems with the body mounts in the rear of the wheel well and the washer fluid resi in the front right before you have issues with the stock front bumper.

A rear bumper will allow you to carry a full size spare which is required for any serious off roading.

I had the muffler shop cut my rear pipe and move it higher up. Clearance is alot better. Plus you cant see the large watermelon resonator.

I cut the resignator off and i cut the tail pipe just after it curvse up over and down behind the rear axle and kinda pointed it slightly towards the right rear fenderwell its way up high now an still points downward to help keep water out. you have to look up under the truck to even see its there. And its deffinantly away from rocks. Other than that just scrapping the bottom of my rear cross member mainly where the hitch bracket bolts up in the rear. I haven't had many issues up front though i can usually angle my approch on a steep grade and get eather the front right or front left to pick the front of the vehicle up and then turn into the grade without rubbing or bumper thrashing. and the few places i haven't been able to angle my apporch the plastic bumper just gives in and gets out of its on way lol. I want a front steel bumper for mainly looks, and it would certainly be a better highlift jack point for me as well as a way better recovery hook point than an axel or cross member under the truck. I would say i want it for the whinch mount but i've seen you can modify the existing bumper bar to hold a whinch so you can whinch with or without a solid steel front bumper. I want the steel rear bumper mainly for the spare tire rack, added recovery points, (although I'd rather have to be pull through what im trying to overcome than be pulled back and give up) and better approch and departure angles. the looks of the rear steel bumpers are awesome aswell so thats just a plus. I haven't gotten to the budget of steel front and rear bumpers yet so I'm steel holding off on purchase. My prioties armor wise right now are Slidders first, then underbody skid plating, then ill start considering steel front and rears (unless someone rearends or pulls out infront of me on the road between now an then, and i luck out with insurance lol)
