Offroad roof lights

Im looking at putting some small offroad lights on my 04 4Runner's roof. Its my daily driver and gas mileage is important to me so I probably wont be getting a safari rack or anything like that. Has anyone simply attached some lights to their roof rack?

I was thinking the smaller projector style lamps and attaching them to the inside of the side rail or on the crossbar. My work has a machine shop so I can fab up whatever bracket I would need to make it work.

Anybody know of a good small lamp for this application?

if you want something small and rectangle, i'd suggest Hella 550's. small, very inexpensive and very bright. i'm sure there's someone who could offer a better opinion though.

Thanks for the quick info. I might go with something even shorter and more low profile, like these:

Hella/Mopar lights

Looks like theyre made by Hella and OEMed out to Mopar.

My only remaining question is do you think if I mount small lights on top of or in front of the first cross beam they would be too far back to be effective?
