Offroad Trail Sites

Hey everyone, so throughout my time, I've been trying to find as much information on 4x4 trails around California and just wanted to share some of the sites I've come across throughout my searches.

Anyone out there from NorCal as well that can recommend some beginner/moderate trails?

California Off-highway Vehicle Recreation Areas -- Official government site for all State regulated OHVRAs

4x4TrailMaps.com

RiderPlanet OHV Trails -- this one seems more geared towards ATVs & dirtbikes, filtered by State, tough to navigate

Trails.com Off-Highway Drives/Offroad Trails -- filtered by activity

AllTrails.com -- Click Browse > Search, then filter by Off Road Driving under Activities

He might be able to suggest some easy/moderate trails in NorCal. If you like camping, Bowman Lake and Gold Lake are nice. Those are really the only two I've been to so far since I've lived up here. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

Honestly, I haven't hit the trials like you guys do, I just go camping, and find roads/trails/pathways, to get to fishing holes wherever I go camping.

LOL yeah besides High Lakes a couple times, Bowman twice, Gold Lake, Morman Immigrant trail and some random spots, I'd say that's not too bad having only lived up here 8 months .... I'm also thinking of easy/moderate trails (that's why I didn't mention Snake Lake trail hahaha)

Sounds like you been somewhere I haven't gone in my adult life.

OP has some sites I haven't been on, will have to sit and check out.
[MENTION=56044]downpour11[/MENTION], the last suggestion I made might have a problem due to fire restrictions all over. No camp fires at the trail end LAKE SPOT. The rest of the area to camp, is overly populated this time of year. Glad to see your not so much deprived now.

You would like eagle lake trail. Plenty of camping and moderate trails to explore.

Dude, with your rig you need to head up too slickrock and dear valley!! Shit, you should run the rubi with those new iroks!

Yeah I remember passing Slickrock on the way to Gold Lake. I know we'll definitely check it out in the future. I also know Rubicon is on our list as well. But I need to armor up before the next difficult trail we run. The IROK's are badass tires though, definitely allowed me to tackle some stuff I wouldn't have tried prior.

Yeah I remember passing Slickrock on the way to Gold Lake. I know we'll definitely check it out in the future. I also know Rubicon is on our list as well. But I need to armor up before the next difficult trail we run. The IROK's are badass tires though, definitely allowed me to tackle some stuff I wouldn't have tried prior.

That looks like a blast! Hopefully I can find some funds for some armor this summer because I definitely need it! lol What's the crowd like in the summer there?

We were there in the spring and there was a mix of toyotas(us, LC's), a Lexus lx, and some jeeps. I'd assume there are a lot more jeeps and crawlers during the summer but that is too hot for me.

The deer valley trip was a lot of fun as well. I would say its a little easier than slickrock but still challenging and tons of fun! NorCal TW Deer Valley Picture/Video Thread

I go up in the Tahoe/Emerald bay usually every year, buddie of mine has a cabin/house in town ( S. Lake Tahoe ) that he let's me use every year.

Been on the trail you mention, the kids poop out before I can get that far into to get to Eagles Lake. I might have to hit you up about that Rubicon area/entrance when I hit that area up again. Not to familiar on the east side of 80 area north.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'll find some steel somewhere and have a friend bend it for me. I'll drill some holes and slap it on. Just need to get that diff covered and possibly put some plate steel between the crossmembers so I don't get hung up.

On top of all the back roads and trail maps books that you can buy/get, they give you descriptive directions on the trails listed.

You can get the large National Forest maps of the areas that you tend to travel. They tend to help piece the trails in the books. They can show how to travel from different areas to areas with out seeing any highways/roads. Great for areas that have many lakes and streams/rivers. I wish they would up date them myself as many of them are a 20 yr old maps.
