Offroad trip in Orange County

I'm thinking about doing a short day trip to the Santa Ana Mountain in east Orange County. I'm thinking Saturday Jan28th.

I live In San Juan Capistrano so Im thinking about going up Silverado(MapleSprings) across Santiago Peak then over to the Ortega Highway(74).

Its nothing too extreme. 2wd will be fine as long as its dry.

If you have no idea what trails and mountains I'm talking about but still interested, you can post or PM me.

All fireroads with amazing views of the ocean and the mountains and valley looking east.

I am interested! Can you provide more details about the trails you were talking about?

Yes. Im having trouble uploading a map.

But directions to the trailhead go as:

From the I-5 take EL TORO east.

Left on Santiago Canyon(cooks corner)

Right on SILVERADO CANYON. Take this 6miles to white gate.

Silverado Canyon turns in MAPLE SPRINGS. The first 3 miles are paved and it begins to climb. We will climb Maple then head SOUTH on the MAIN DIVIDE all the way to ORTEGA HIGHWAY(74). Im thinking packing a lunch and stopping at Santiago Peak and take in the views.

Do you have an idea of what time you want to start? I might need something to do on Saturday.

Preferably early. Perhaps a 8 or 9 meet time. Probably the best meeting Place would be COOKS CORNER or the corner of Santiago Canyon and Silverado(theres a big dirt parking lot here).

Whatever time is best, so we can get the most trucks/guys.

Also if anyone isnt up for driving co-pilots are allowed.

Like I said, this is all doable with 2wd. There are a couple stream crossings in the beginning but nothing huge.

Lets take a vote for the day? Im up good for any weekend. I'm also up for this FRIDAY the 27th if anyone is interested.

Kind of short notice but...

Count me in!

I've been waiting the chance to get my truck dirty enough to actually NEED a wash. :D

allright!!! were getting some more guys:awais:

It seems im the only one in a 3rd gen??

So whats everyboys name and where are you from?

Matt and from south OC, San Juan Capistrano

Call the USFS rangers and check. I go mountain biking up there a lot and late last year the road between the peak and 74 was destroyed. Hopefully it has been repaired. The trip to the top is still fun!

ya really short notice..I want to tag along too, but this weekend I may not make it. How about next weekend? I do some mountain biking too, so this place sounds cool..

Quick question...

Which exit off the 5 Freeway do we take to get there.

And GPS coordinates would be cool too. ;):
(Hey, I've got to justify the cost of my NAV unit somehow!
:bash: )!

Yo snap! From south OC exit EL TORO from the 5 and head east.

Not sure the fastest way from north OC. You can click to the link to map above and zoom out to find the best way.
