Oil bottle in engine.

Quick question, is this a normal way to rig up an engine? I've never seen it before....

It's most definitely "rigged" and a shitty penzoil filter to top it off.

At least they used a nice oil. Kendall Titanium is good stuff. Now if they left the drain plug out, that is a different story...

Ok so I called the shop & it was catching the drip under the oil filter, they forgot to take it out.... so does that mean they left the plug out? New to this stuff...apparently they don't use Kendal oil there so maybe they just had that bottle around to catch drips.

Looks accessible to change the oil filter myself, should I try and what filter should I get? It's a high mileage truck, 176k, and I definitely want to take the best care of it!

I took the bottle out. This is a mod? Lol I wouldn't have known that. As far as I knew it was factory all the way...also that bottle wasn't there when I bought the truck...

No. You have to upgrade your blinker fluid and do a muffler bearing delete before you'll notice any upgrades.

The reason I went with the V8 is it has lifetime blinker fluid. Changing it on the V6 is a PITA.

it comes with a black rubber plug from factory so any oil residue will stay in the cup but most of the time its gone lol.
some shops do it with the oil bottle, others use a hose.
i use a hose from the port to the drain pan and when everythings done i flush a little degreaser through and pull the hose.

Napa gold or Puralator oil filters are good, or just get a Toyota factory filter.
