Oil change analysis 04 V8

After 7200 miles it didn't need a drop of oil. It just doesn't burn oil. I used to check it, but I have to say a few times I have gotten lazy and not looked at it between oil changes.

That OCA I posted even included about 700 miles of towing a 7000 lb boat. So seems like towing doesn't make a whole lot of diff.

I only went with Penzoil because walmart was out of Mobil 1. I've always used 5W-30, but bought some 5W-20 Mobile 1 to try next. I don't think I'll do more OCA's because after all is said and done it's about $40. That's about the cost of a change. I think i'll go 7500 miles and stick with that for the future, unless I'm piling on the highway miles like I am now, then I'll do 10K.

Change my 03, 4.7 once a year with Amsoil. Doesn't use any oil between changes and when I do change it still looks nice and brown. The 4.7 is one great engine.

I'm on mobil1 ow-30 with toyota oil filter... been full syn since its first oil change back in 2004 after 500 miles. Has 114k miles and has not burned any oil in almost 10 years. This is the first time I'll be going past 7500 miles... probably extend it to 9k miles. Oh and I drive about 85% highway miles, no towing.

85% highway miles with no towing and 15% or so stop and go miles. I'd say you'd have no concerns in the extension of your intervals. I just do once a year whether it's 5K miles or 15K miles, doesn't matter.

Too bad the 4.0 has a completely useless dipstick. I wouldn't know if it was two quarts high or two quarts low. It's impossible to read. However, I live by this motto; oil is cheap, engines are not. When the MAINT light comes on it change it.

I'll have to do an analysis at about 10/15k with the Amsoil Signature Synthetic I am using, they're saying it will last until 25k under normal use and 15k under "severe" conditions (though both are withing 1year according to them).

This is also kind of cool... Its from Amsoil's Website on the Amsoil Signature Synthetic oil, they say its "3rd Party" so take that with a grain of salt... but Amsoil's a damn good company so I have little reason to believe they'd out right lie about their product when it tends to speak for itself.

Every fluid in my 4R is Amsoil. I change my oil once a year which ends up being about 14-15k and only use about 1/4 qt in that time. Their extended drain times is only good if you use their high performance oil filters also. I don't have the test data of that with me, but their filters blow all others out of the water. I did the same in a '94 ranger 4.0 4x4 that I had since new. I followed their recommendations which at the time were around 1yr/15k with a filter change halfway through. I drove that truck to 250k before selling it to get the 4R. It did use 1 qt of oil every 2.5k near the end so I switched to dino oil to save money, but that is dang good for the Ford or any American made truck of that time period and it still ran like new. Do the same for the wifes pos Grand Am and with 150k it uses no oil and runs like new also.
