Oil Change Interval

Hello guys/gals,

Does anyone know the recommended time to change your oil since it uses SAE-20 oil? some are telling me the traditional 3,000...the window sticker from dealership says 5,000...

for a 1st oil change and all subsequent ones....what do you guys think?

According to the owners manual, and the up to date online owners manual supplement, and the info on the Club Toyota website, service intervals in Canada is 8,000 kms (Approx 5k miles)

There is no mention whatsoever of an extended interval, nor was there any mention when i bought the truck 2 weeks ago.

Ask your Service Manager.... Mine said it is officially 10000 in the states.

I had my first oil change today and asked the service dept about the 10K oil change, he said no Toyota's have that and no oil's would hold their viscocity that long. He said it's 5K for the 4Runner, funny thing is......they noted 3K on the little sticker they put on your windshield reminding you when it's due next.

What Toyota dealership did you go to? Did Bubba at the service/parts counter tell this ?If the service manager told you this ,he should be reported to Toyota headquarters.I would NOT go back there.

I just came from the my dealership and they showed me the manual insert that is going to be sent out to to all owners. 10,000 mile oil changes for normal duty cars that use 0W-20 oil. IT IS OFFICIAL!

On an unofficial note ,Did Bubba mumble something about pouring a quart of 0W-20 oil on the gas pedal every 5000 miles to keep it from sticking!JK:lmao:

Come to think of it, he did look like a Bubba!! I e-mailed Toyota direct and asked as I have seen nothing official about this to date. 10K oil changes does seem unusual though.

When I bought my 2010 TE earlier this week, one of the dealer guys mentioned 5K for right now but said Toyota is still evaluating the 10K interval of course with the 0W20 synthetic. Any idea when Toyota will send out the notices about the change if in fact it does take place?

I assume mobile 1 has 0w20 oil unless someone has some other recommendations?

When I bought mine in November my dealership told me to change it every 5K and I haven't been told otherwise as of yet.... I'm not any way close to needing an oil change yet but when I am I will ask again what they think the standard is now.

Picked my 2010 5th gen up on Dec 19 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Salesman went out of his way to emphasize 10,000 miles for oil changes since they are now using 0W20 synthetic oil. In the little pamphlet they include about maintenance he crossed out the 5000 miles and wrote 10. However, he further emphasized that tires should still be rotated every 5000. So they will give me 3 free tire rotations for 2 free oil changes.

Toyota of Wilmington, NC is also pushing changing my '04 Camry oil to synthetic and increasing the change cycle to 10,000. To justify the cost of synthetic they have to recommend longer timing, and as I recall, when synthetic first came out years ago that was one of its main advantages. For me I am going with 10K miles.
