Oil change light

My V8 2005 Sport is about due for an oil change. If I change the oil and use synthetic, will the light on the dash that indicates it is time for the next oil change come on after more miles (synthetic oil) or less miles (regular oil). I know it is best to go by mileage, but how does the oil know the difference from synthetic or regular oil? And thanks for the info on this site, All the "check everything" lights came on one morning (loose gas cap) and I had read about disconnecting the battery cables for 15 minutes and it worked. The light on the dash simply counts miles since the last time it was reset. It starts blinking after you start the engine at 4500 miles, and stays on at 5000 miles.
