Oil Change: oil on oil filter rubber gasket ring?

I'm about to instal the oil and for the life of me I can't remember if these v6 engines require oil on the rubber gasket to properly seal the filter.
I'm used to dabbing a film over them and tightening them 3/4 past mating surface contact on all the other engines I've worked on, but for some reason I had a hunch that you weren't supposed to do that on these engines. 5 minute search didn't give me what I was looking for so here's a new thread.

Yep, you're doing it right. I don't think these oil filters are any different than other regular filters.

Former Toyota tech here, I always put a dab of oil on the gaskets prior to installing. Always seals better.

another thing people often overlook doing. wipe the sealing surface also.
its nice for it to start out fresh, but this will also help discover a stuck oring.

you don't want a double seal on there, it WILL leak.
