Oil Change

Hey All,

I have a dumb question - I recently bought a 2007 SR5 and was thinking about oil changes. I only have a little over 1k on it now but I heard the first oil change should be done quicker than normal. I wanted to get some input from you guys on it.

Congratulations on getting an '07. You lucky dog. I have never owned a Toyota during it's warranty . I would highly recommend you let your local Toyota dealer perform your first few oil changes so that there can be no doubt on the timing or performance quality of the work.

You may be able to save a few $$ by purchasing a case of filters from your dealership and then using those filters each time you have an oil change done. That is what I do, and I bring my own synthetic oil each change. With an engine as new as yours I would check the owner's manual carefully on the recommended viscosity of the oil to be used and whether they recommend synthetic.

its the break in period. there are metal shaving in your oil thats why alot of people do the first oil change between 800 mile to 1k.

There is no dumb question!!! so ask away. some people just know more information then other, and some is still in the learning process. Congrats and enjoy your 4runner!

Taken care of. You own a 4th generation, which is considered the General Disscussion area. I know it can be a little confusing.

I usually change the oil a little early on new cars. I changed my oil in the 4Runner at 1,500 and I did it by myself. I know a lot of people think it is a bit overkill and some don't think it is nessecary anymore. On some cars like Honda, they have a special oil in for the break-in period and it should not be changed early. Toyota does not use this special oil.

One quick note, when I did the first oil change, they used a different size filter, since it was from Japan and I had to use another method to get the oil filter off, instead of the filter cap. The second change was much better.
