Oil Change

Hi Team~

Should I expect any oil change light blinkers or warning/maintenance as I approach my first 5,000 miles on the Runner? ITs an 08 obviously.

Does everyone else get their oil changed every 5,000?

You almost caught me off gaurd with the avatar. ;):

There is a maintenance reminder light, which blinks for a few seconds at 4500 miles and glows steady at 5000.

The maintance light is completely based on mileage only. There are no sensors that monitor the oil's condition or how hard or long the engine's been ran.

A lot of people ask this... how to reset the light:
Set the tripometer/odometer display to display the odometer, if it's not already set. (Turn the key back to 'ACC', if needed.) Hold down the trip/odometer toggle, turn the key to 'ON'. Keep holding down the toggle, until the series of dashes begin to count down from six dashes to none, the maintenance light will flash a few times. The light should be off for another 4500 miles. If it comes back on, repeat the procedure again.

I change my oil at 4000-4500 miles. It's a happy medium between traditional 3000 and the recommended 5000 by Toyota.

My 3rd gen oil change is recommended at 7,500 and the 4th at 5,000. I am not sure of why they changed, but I think after Toyota had that sludge problem with 3.0 V6 they should lower it to 5,000. People who drove the mini-van thought 7,500 meant 7,500.

I started the thread on how often you should change and I wrote 7,500 as recommended by Toyota, I didn't realize Toyota changed their tune.

My '04 manual recommends oil change every 5000 miles (with normal driving). However, an "insert" was inside the manual that states oil change every 7500 miles (normal driving). I change my oil @ 5000 or when convenient but before 7500 miles. I have two cases of Mobil1 eager to go in to the engine and the weather is getting freakin' cold!

yeah, 5K miles for me, give or take depending on the type of driving I've been doing -- lot of city driving and I'll change closer to 4K but a lot of freeway driving and I'll let it slip to 6K

Unless I have one of those years I don't drive much (like 2008), in which case I'll change about every 6 months regardless of mileage.
