Likely be better to change the filter at 5k and the oil at 10k. But:
CHANGE THEM BOTH.
The cost of one filter is about the same as 3 gallons of gas. Or 70 miles of driving. Why would you not change your filter other tan environmental reasons?
And it won't save the planet either.

Time, and To avoid dropping the skid and making a mess. I have the fumoto drain valave. I'd like to just open the valve, drain oil, add oil and be done, and just change filter every other oil change. I was just curious, if the filter can't handle it, I certainly won't do it.

I buy the filters in bulk for both my 4runner and wife's highlander on amazon. Oil from costco.

It would probably handle it, Honda even recommends changing their oil cheap factory Honeywell filters every other OCI, so every 15k!
A lot of the new Yotas with the new canister filter are now recommending 10k intervals for average drives.
With that said, I'd change it out, but then again, it takes 10 second on my V6. If you want to run both for 10k, I'd suggest one of the good 15K+ filters like Amsoil, M1, or the Bosch Distance+. IIRC the M1 is guaranteed for 15k if you use their EP oil, I've run a Bosch D+ for 15k with M1 EP in my Honda and the Blackstone report came back sparkling.

Back in the late 1970's early 1980's Toyota had decided that since oil had been so improved with modern technology and their state of the art engines were so we'll build that oil and filter changes would now be recommended at either 7.5k or 10k (I can't remember which but I'm leaning toward 7.5k. Maybe somebody can help me out here.) . To make the story short Toyota wound up paying for many engine replace/rebuilds due to sludge build-up. I've pretty much used Mobile 1 since it came out in the in the mid 70's. Have always changed Oil and filter at 4K to 5k intervals,even in the bought new 78 and 82 Celicas and the 84 mini-van despite factory recommendations. Never an issue and my oil always looks nearly as clean when it comes out as when it went in.

I change my oil, Mobil 1, every 5k, but change the filter every 2.5k. I have always felt, IMHO, that a good synthetic oil or dino oil works best if kept clean. I also buy my filters by the case, and feel that my 4Runner deserves the extra 10/15 min attention every now and then.
Best way to keep your oil clean is to change the oil. The filter can only filter down to a certain particle size and most filters are not that different from each other. A few filters like Amsoil, Mobile 1 Extended life and Wix XL filter down to a smaller particle size and have more filtering capacity. Not saying what you are doing is wrong especially if it makes you feel better, just saying you are better off running a top end filter and changing oil twice as often as the filter. As far as I know nobody filters better than Amsoil and what I normally run with a 15k mile oil change, but I am thinking of changing my routine to running oil for 7.5k miles and changing Amsoil filter every other oil change.

I've personally seen through several trucks in my business fleet reach 1,000,000km+. We do oil changes every 12,000km and run a full synthetic and high quality filters. We also do oil analysis every other oil change.
High quality synthetics don't start to deteriorate nearly as quickly as dino oil did. That's why the myth of 5k oil changes is still around.

OK, it is a personal choice issue. But, since you are North of the border, lets compare apples to apples. When I used the 5k figure, I was referring to 5,000 miles, not kilometers. The 12,000km interval you use on fleet vehicles would be a 7,456 mile interval down here, which is the Toyota recommended standard service interval on my '03, according to the owners manual. So my 5,000 mile interval isn't that much of a stretch, IMHO. And, I would guess that many vehicles designed for fleet use are built to a different standard than the regular, off the shelf passenger use vehicle. So I would not be surprised that a fleet vehicle would go 1,000,00km (620,000 miles) with the proper maintenance schedule, and a bit of luck.

If you really want to know if the oil and filter change interval is good for your driving conditions, oil & filter brand, and current engine condition, then consider an oil analysis test. Just run the truck with selected oil, filter, and mileage and send it off to lab. Cost is about $30. Blackstone and Amsoil are two oil labs, just google them. Large government and commercial fleets do oil analysis studies to determine optimum change interval due to economics involved when there are many vehicles involved.

You would be surprised how much that extra 2500 miles adds up over time. I've done the math.
They're not special trucks man. A few Kenworth T800s with ISX550s, a CAT C15, quite a few 1 ton RAMs and a few Hemi 1/2 tons.

It is all a matter of scale. The greater the miles per year, and the larger number of vehicles, the larger the cost which can be an important factor to a business. But for me, we are talking about one vehicle, which since I am retired, sees about 10,000 miles per year. The difference between a 5,000 mile and a 7,500 mile oil change cycle (assuming I still change the filter twice during each cycle) amounts to about $28 dollars a year. Not enough of a savings to even spend the money to have the oil tested (which to be fair, should be done at least three times with each different cycle to establish a valid baseline average for comparison). So just the testing alone would cost more than the potential savings. Too much work for too little benefit, IMHO. I'll stick with what works for me, and let others live on the 'edge'.
