Oil Filter Number Change.....

Toyota has decided to switch filters again apparently grrr.

Called the dealership to double check the part number and sure enough they're now issuing the YZZG2 for a variety of applications. They're made in USA and unlike the D3 the gasket isn't pre oiled and covered with plastic. The gasket also rotates.....don't recall previous gaskets rotating like that, can anyone else chime in?

The consensus seems to be the D_ filters are better quality than the G_, or at least preferred.

I have always been able to get D_ filters by asking for them, even in the US.

That's all I know.

Oh and they use different end cap wrenches. pain in the b**.

I agree. They are not as high quality as the D filters. Can get and use D3 instead of D1

The local dealer here(California) sold an American-made filter for the 22RE(same as for our 5VZE) in the early 2000's, when I first had a Toyota truck. It appeared to be a higher-grade product from Wix or Baldwin. Maybe one quality step below the Mobil 1 or K&N equivalent. Hopefully this new one is at least that good.

Well I ordered 3 of the G filters so I guess I'll use those up and go back to D; I liked how the D filters were pre greased and covered with the plastic film. Plus they weren't made in USA. Sad I even have to say that.

Subaru did the same thing a few years back. Switched from Japan filters to a new one. Turns out the new ones are Honeywell filters. Everyone *****ed and complained the old ones were better, but I have yet to see any issues from the new Honeywell ones

I just picked up a couple from the local dealer here (Canada) yesterday. Never knew there were any differences.

Just went out to the garage and checked, I got the D1s, made in Thailand by Denso. Greased gasket and plastic cover. that's they way they've always been since I've owned the truck. Never had any issue with them.
