Oil Filter position?

Hey everyone. I'm shopping for 3.4l engines for my 97 4Runner, and i have found a couple...one of the things i have noticed though is that some of these imported engines have the oil filter located further aft on the left side of the block, with a circular plate forward of the engine mount. Has anyone else seen this? Is it something that needs to be changed? Is it an easy change? Any help would be great. thanks!

Do u have any pictures of this.

The JDM engines have a different oil filter location. It's a simple alteration that you need to do when swapping.

First gen Tundras with the 3.4 have that configuration with the filter where the oil cooler is on our 3rd Gens. As T4R2014 said, it's a matter of moving parts from your engine to the donor.

OP, sorry for the thread high-jack here.

@csp, have you ever 'serviced' the oil cooler? Does the engine need to be pulled to do so? I know it's in somewhat of a funky location.

The oil filter can be installed in either location. So can the oil cooler, to the limit of its connection to the cooling system. Obviously, both locations need one of a) oil filter, b0 oil cooler, c) cover.
