Oil Filter Relocation Kits

I have an 04 V8 and I hate having to remove that skidplate everytime I want to change the oil.

I've seen others on the forum mention the filter relocation kits, but I can't seem to find any for 4th Gen 4Runners.

Does anyone have any links to one for ours? Also what does everyone think of these kits? Are they safe to use?

I bought the universal oil filter relocation kit from Perma Cool, but sent it back when I realized that it was going to cost me big bucks to actually do it right.

The hoses and clamps Perma Cool supplies are junk, IMO. I would have to use better hoses and fittings (my guess was $150 or so extra) to feel confident in the system. The filter mounting unit itself did not seem to have good quality either. The mounting surface where the filter gasket mates against was pitted and uneven. Also, the inlet and outlet ports are vertical in the universal kit, and this makes it rather awkward to mount in this application (unless you want the filter horizontal or upside-down.)

The seemingly very expensive Amsoil remote filter kit (with or without the bypass filter) actually seems fairly reasonable now that I've looked into the options. I'm definitely no fan of Amsoil in general, but would strongly consider their remote filter kits.

If you really wanted to use Perma Cool, I'd just buy the mounting bracket that has the inlet and outlet offset to the left side (sold seperately, not in a kit), and then get the appropriate hoses and fittings from Jegs or Summit Racing.

I saw the Perma ones, but for some reason just wasn't sold on them, and by your response I see i was right.

I wish that Toyota would have just put the filter in a better location to start with. The oil change could be done in 10 minutes if it wasn't for that skid plate.

Looks like it lists for $201 on the Amsoil website. Depending on how you mount it, you could end up buying additional fittings.

On another thread , I showed how I modified my skid plate to allow the filter to be removed without taking off the skid plate. I have changed my oil once since doing this so far, and it was not perfect. I still ended up with a bunch of oil on the skid plate, but I suspect with a little more practice I will be able to pull the filter without leaking a bunch of oil

Koz, if you're out there, how is the Amsoil filter doing? Have you had the oil analyzed yet?

Have you found that the bypass filter warms up quicker and the full flow filter ages? I do know that the more resistance in the full flow filter, the greater the delta between pressure and return sides of the filter, and the bypass will flow better, given less pressure on the return side.
