I have a 1996 3.4L SR5. I am getting oil in my air intake. I need to replace the valve cover gaskets, but is that the reason im getting oil in my air intake?

It is likely either a clogged up EGR system and or PCV valve. It was a very common problem with engines of that era. It doesn't necessarily hurt the engine, but can result in less power, wandering idle, or rough idle especially at start-up.
My '89 5.0L Mustang would do this until I learned how to keep my PCV valve and my idle air bypass valve clean. You basically have to remove them, spray them out with intake cleaner, let air dry and reinstall. We had a '96 Ford Windstar van that needed the same treatment.
If your upper intake is full of this thick oily goop, then it may be best to pull the upper intake system off, completely clean everything out, and reinstall. Using those foam cleaners, like Seafoam, in an intake that is severely coated, may produce so much nasty smoke through the exhaust system that it damages your O2 sensors or clogs up your catalytic converters, then you've got more problems.
If you do decide to pull parts, find out if there are gaskets between those parts and obtain them before starting the project.
