oil leak, also a light tap

91 4runner sr5, 3vze 3.0, auto 4x4,

Guys, I do beleive I have a bad oil leak, It appears to be the rear main seal, and the valve covers. The engine also has a light tap upon acceleration. The 3.0 was rebuilt 2 years ago and of course the warranty for that is out - I am mechanically inclined, basically experienced at it allexcept actually rebuilding an engine. Is this rear main seal a bear? I imagine I'll have to get a feeler guage for the tappity tap valves and some new gaskets. Any one here been through this ? any tips are greatly appreciated - thanks!

Sorry, I'm new here, and I don't even have that engine. I do know that if you're going for the main seal on anything, you have to be prepared to move a lot of metal in the form of the engine/tranny combo. I hope you have a nice garage to work in. Be safe and think of the small things first.
