Need some help, I recently changed the spark plugs on my 4runner and noticed that only one had a little bit of oil on the threading. I also noticed a ticking sound from the engine when it is idelling. A mechanic said it may be the rings need to be replaced and that it would be a 2k and up, but he wasnt the best help, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Mine had oil on the threads as well.
In one of the threads, members discussed using anti-seize on the new plugs. There was a post someone mentioned using synthetic motor oil on the threads in place of anti-seize. It was also mentioned that the use synthetic motor oil on the threads is how GM recommends plugs be installed in the LS Corvette engine.

I was taught to put oil on the threads years ago. I continued to do it up until I changed the plugs on my 4R (I used anti-sieze). Check it again in another month or so and see if it's there...it probably won't be.
You don't say what year your 4R is - but my 4G ticks too - as do most others. There is a thread here somewhere that shows how you might be able to reduce it. It doesn't bother me too much so I can't vouch for how effective it is....but others have said it works.
