oil pan plastic piece undercar

I have been hearing rattling noises under my car lately so i decided to bring it to the dealership to see where its coming from. so the dealer said there was a loose rock in the skid plate so they took it out but the noise is still there. So i went under the car and noticed there is a plastic piece conneted to a metal piece right under the oil pan. It looks like its just bouncing up and down and hitting the underbody of the car. Should i take this piece off? I mean its just a piece of plastic ...is it really gonna protect anything? Any Suggestions?

It's not going to hurt anything if you remove it. Some members have reported that theirs fell off or gotten lost. I never heard any noises from that piece, but I also have taken it off and never put it back. The only thing you'll notice with it removed is the oil pan gets a little dirtier.

Does anyone know if there is a metal replacement part for this piece?

Does anyone know what the plastic piece connected to theend of the oil pan cover is for? I took mine off cause it was just flapping around but what can it really protect?

It does not protect anything, just covers a drain plug. I removed mine on the 1st oil change.

Yea i took that one off but im talking about that other plastic piece thats connceted to the metal cover that flops around.

That piece shouldn't flop around. It's a hard plastic that should hold it's shape. I think I have the same issue but haven't gotten around to looking. I think it's actually a heat shield for the exhaust system that is making the noise.
