Oil Pan Write-up

Hey guys, so I recently discovered I have a pinhole in my oil pan that needs fixing. This means I need a new oil pan! However it's behind the front differential so that needs to be removed. I talked to the stealership about this and they wanted $938 + tax to do it. So I laughed my way home and I've decided I'm going to tackle this myself. This is my first big maintenance job I'm doing myself and I was looking for some guidance here. I'm gonna patch it and wait until summertime to do it. The way I see it, I'd rather buy $938+tax worth of tools and do it myself over a week and keep the tools than pay them to do it and learn nothing!
If anyone has any experience with removing the front differential or would be interested in making a write-up, I would be greatly interested!

Is the pin hole accessible?
If so maybe peen it with a hammer. Or if you know someone with a mig welder spot weld over the pinhole.

I wonder what caused the hole? I would likely weld it closed but I would check to make sure it is the only one first.

It's right at the back of the pan on the bottom. In front of the transmission. You could get at it pretty well by loosening the steering rack. The trouble is, the pinhole is from rust. Rust and engines don't mix well so I think I definitely have to fix it permanently with a new one

Another thought I had, I know there's such things as diff drop kits. Which is essentially a body lift puck placed on the diff mounts to decrease the CV angle right? How far can you drop the differential while it is still connected to both CVs?

I don't think there's an abundance of write-ups for changing the oil pan since it's such a huge PITA that people typically cough up the dough for it to be someone else's headache.
