oil pressure gauge question

the gauge that has the little oil can picture on it. That is the oil pressure gauge right?
Mine is usually at the low area and occasionally it moves to the middle hangs out in there, sometimes it passes it a little bit, then comes back down to low. Is this normal, or am I supposed to have one set oil pressure, like the temperature gauge?

First off, I have an 87 22RE that has ~3K on a rebuild soooo not sure how this affects oil pressure...more...less...some say less is more (heh!). Regardless, my oil pressure needle never gets to the center position. At warm idle (800 - 900 RPM), it goes below the quarter tick and at ~60MPH it rides about half ways between the quarter tick and half tick.

Do yourself a favor, buy a cheap mech gauge, & check the pressure. It might be the sender or the factory guage, but if the pressure is low u need to address it.

The pressure will rise with RPM's, but should still be within factory spec.

Its normal I think. Mine starts off in the middle when the engine is cold and once its warm it sits around 1/3 which is fine I believe.

When it idles it drops right off.

Just like blood pressure, low pressure is better than high pressure!!.....but not too low. 8)
