oil pressure

I have a 95 with a 3.0. When I start it up the oil pressure gauge reads on the line just above the L. After driving a few miles the gauge drops all the way down & never moves again. Please help.

Well if you start the truck and you don't here metal on metal slapping that's good meaning your oil pump is pumping oil. It may be on the way out though and that may be why the low reading. It could also be your oil pressure sending unit. I'm goin through a simular thing withy my 85. I'm gonna install me an oil pressure guage to closly monitor the pressure.
