I went into Autozone to pick up some oil because 1995 4runner was running a little low and I asked the guy if he could look up type of oil it took because i couldnt remember it off the top of my head and he said I should be using 20w-50, I thought he was high on drugs. What is the correct type of oil i should be running on a 1995 4runner 3.0L V6 with around 200,000?

For me, it depends upon a few factors. If you live in a really cold area, I tend to run a lighter oil especially on annual oil changes. I run either Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-40 or Castrol Syntec of the same weight. It uses no oil between changes(doesn't leak). With your miles on the truck, you might consider 15w-40. 20w oil is probably a tad thick for these engines, but I would consider it depending on the temps in the region and engine wear characteristics.
You might start with 10w-40 high mile formula, and if the engine is using it, up the weight to 15w. You might consider a compression test to see what condition the engine is in. Hope this helps.

In my '86 ive been using Valvoline's Maxx Life high milage formula 10W-30 the past couple oil changes. I havnt had any problems such as burning oil or leaks or anything like that. Although, I honestly should be using 40 to 50 rather than 30 due to the temperature ranges I normally experience. Going into winter though, using 30 should be alright. As far as the quality, my engine seems to like it and it runs smooth and my fuel economy is pretty darn good (18 to 22). Whenever I go to change the oil again the oil doesnt look like its in bad shape (which of course is the engine's usage of it rather than the oil itself) even when I forget to pay attention to how many miles its been since the last change :bash:

I feel I should mention over the past 3 years and for the next 1 year it has and will be driven primarily (99.9%) in North Carolina where I'm stationed rather than in northern CT where I live. Pretty big temperature difference

I'm with Footofgod on this one. In all of my older Toyota's ( 3.0 or 22r/re ) I run Castrol 20w-50. I also run a quart of Lucas in mine, and always use a Toyota oil filter. Never had any problems so far.
