Ok here is a odd question

I have an 08 4runner and i am going to be driving 2 hours to Orlando Florida. This time of the year its really crappy for those bugs and they love to get stuck to your front grill... So my mom told me i should spray PAM on the entire front of my car bumper and grill. Is she nuts? Would that actually work or would it ruin my paint?

not sure about pam on paint, but you could also get a love bug screen. The love bugs guts WILL eat into your paint, so make sure you wash your car often. Not uncommon to just wash the front of the car and windshield without the rest down in Florida when the love bugs are out.

:iagree: Dupli-color makes a temporary, spray-on mask, I haven't tried it yet but it may be the ticket for the buggy 10 days.

I will diff look into that. Unfountality i should have started this search earlier as i am leaving saturday morning. I think best to do is wash the car off right away so they dont dry. As it is driving from South florida to Orlando i will prolly need to gas up as soon as i arrive anyhow, so ill just the car wash there. Last time i went up there i took my accord and i waited like almost 2 weeks when i got back to wash my car off. Well that sucked i was scrubbing the bugs off they were so stuck it was stupid.

Take a can of Pledge and some soft rags, it does a great, quick clean up. Allow the Pledge to sit on the paint for 1-3minutes (in the shade) to soften the bugs. Rotate the rag frequently so you're not grinding abrasive debris into the paint.

I see one post where a guy has been using the pam method for 10 years without damage.

Also, the pam makes it easier to clean the bugs off right? Or are the bugs supposed to slide off after contact?

Pam shouldn't hurt it -- it's just canola oil delivered in aerosol format.

I have used the Shield product. However, on the directions it says not to leave it on the paint for more than three days. It does make bugs easier to remove, but it does not pressure wash off as easy as Dupli-Color depicts it. To get it completely off, you have to wash it by hand. I would recommend Shield though, it's a bit pricey, $7 per can.

Alternatively, I would just put on an extra coat or two of wax on the entire front end. If you can stop by and hose or wash off the bugs, just spray and wipe the front down with detailing spray.

wd-40 maybe? I've never tried it but heard good things.

There are also specific products for this at Wal-mart etc.
