OK - Ready to buy - need advice

A couple of months ago I asked the members here what they thought about the suitability of a new 4Runner for my wife and I. The thread is here:

After months of agonizing research and text drives, we have decided that the 4Runner will suit us best. I have been watching the Fitzmall website and see two that I think will be good for us. They are both LTD, Salsa Red/Grey, V6. The difference lies in the options and price. Would really like to know what you all think.

What it boils down to is X-Reas or NAV without it at a considerably cheaper price.

Guess I should have previewed the post:D since I can't find an edit function.

What it REALLY comes down to is whether the X-REAS and the NAV system is worth the extra $1500. Had always planned to get a portable and have found the JBL sound system to be just fine by itself. Also to save the money would have to give up the X-Reas suspension. FWIW, have only driven 4Runners with X-REAS and don't really know the difference. I suspect that I am long past zipping through curves.

Please let me know what you think.
 
Drive both and see if the X-REAS makes a difference to you. Many members have bought the Sport Edition because of the X-REAS. I've never driven one with X-REAS, but I don't feel like I'm missing anything in terms of ride or handling.

As for the factory navigation, it's a very nice system which includes a rearview camera that fills up the screen whenever you put the truck in reverse. Whether it's worth the money to you or not will depend on whether the camera is a must-have and how much you travel. When I used to have a 55-mile commute to work, I thought it was well worth it on a daily basis to quickly route around an unexpected traffic problem. With a 4-mile commute to work, I decided to go without the factory nav option and get a Garmin (which is also very nice, IMO, and more suited for my occassional use). There are lots of aftermarket solutions available, too.

X-REAS is a hard-to-find option on the Limited trim, and so is navigation in some areas. It's even harder to find those options on a V6 rather than a V8. If you do like it, I'd snap it up quickly.
 
For me, I didn't want NAV. I've been driving how long without Nav now...I think I can continue to just read a map before I drive somewhere.

Plus, they have way better aftermarket ones that do more, and for about the same price.

Well, have put a deposit on the one with the NAV and X-REAS. Decided that it would be $1500 well spent. Did spend some time on Toyota's website that sort of takes you through the NAV system, step by step. Doesn't look too complicated and seems to have some very nice features.

I do feel obligated to the guy at the local dealer to see if he can come close to the price on the same vehicle. After all he did spend some time with me on three different visits. Have sent him an e-mail showing him the deal from Fitzmall. If I do not hear back from him by noon on Monday, its a done deal.

Will post some pics (if I can figure out how) in a few days.

Once again, I really would like to thank everyone who took the time to respond to some often inane questions over the last few months. This is easily the BEST owners website out of many that I've visited over these last months.
 
Definitely $1500 well spent. The nav unit is more than just a map. But even if it was "just a map," it's an incredibly useful feature by itself. I personally didn't want boxes or wires hanging around so I went with the nav and the Sirius.

In all honesty I hope the local guy gives it up with no hard feelings. The Fitzmall truck is as close to exactly what I want as we will ever get. It is my understanding that they are a huge dealership selling multiple brands to the tune of about 3K cars/month. Its hard to see how a smaller dealership can compete with them.

I had previously told the local guy that I would give him the "last look" and I also told him that I would not walk over $300. Guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens Monday morning.

All the more reason for them to want to keep you away from Fitzmall.
