ok, this SUCKS!!!

Anyone upsize their tires without changing wheels???...for once I actually like the stock wheel, but now I can't find a tire to fit...I have the Sport w/ Dunlops and would like to change to a more aggressive/off-road tread...Tirerack basically says there is not much for the 4th gen 4Runner...tell me this isn't true!!!...help!!

BFG AT KO offers a near stock size: 265/70/17 (if you have the 17" rims). And it is very off-road capable.

P-rated = 4 plies

LT-rated = 6-10 plies, depending on LOAD RANGES:

Load Range C = 6 plies
Load Range D = 8 plies
Load Range E = 10 plies

The more plies you have, the tougher the tire (more resistant to puncture and great load for towing). Thus, most HD trucks have LT tires with Load Range D or E. However, the more plies also mean heavier tire (thus, lower fuel economy, slower acceleration, & greater braking distance).

You may pick P-rated tires if you're not planning to off-road or tow. I believe BFG AT KO tires only come in LT-rated because BFG AT KO tires are usually used by off-roaders or those who tow.

So, as you can see, P and LT are not about width, but about the thickness of the tire layers.

no, i knew that part..p="passenger"...lt="light truck"...i was refering to the ratio...as in 265/70/17 vs. 265/65/17...is that wider???

The 265 tires have the same width. The only thing that change is the diameter. Play around with the calculator and you will see what i mean.

The LT 265/70/17 tires are taller and also narrower than a
LT 265/65/17.

BFG AT KO's are good tires - had a set of 33's on my old rig. I liked the Goodyear ATS's better but they are very expensive. I have no idea the sizes they come in. I had a set of 31's before I went up to 33's. When I upgrade that is what I will replace my stockers with - the BFG's . I could be way off but I think 265/70/17 is a 31 and 285/70/14 would be a tall 32. 7 or something. I don't think BFG makes a mud tire in those sizes. But remember I could be waaaaaay off.
