I'm definitely interested, I have read a few stories that definitely suggest that strength in numbers could be needed.

Nice work! I'm scheduled to be in Houston that weekend, but I'll definitely stay tuned to the conversation in case my plans change for some reason.

Are you going to gain access from the Clayton Trail, or South of Clayton Lake off of 271? Where do you plan on coming out? East to 259 near Three Sticks Monument? Damn, I'm pumped for you guys! Please try to keep some of your planning conversations public so we can follow along.

I'm sure I don't need to suggest this, but I'm going to anyway... Bring at least one chainsaw and extra chain.
I went solo to the Ouachita NF in November 2013 with only a handsaw and luckily never had to use it. I ran the exact same forest roads with some friends a month later and luckily I asked my buddy to bring his chainsaw because there were trees down everywhere. On one remote 1/2 mile stretch we had to cut and drag 6-7 pines to get to my campsite. His chain was virtually useless at the end of the weekend.

Yessir!...that's pretty much the route I plan to take. I think it was [MENTION=49254]Mr. Leary[/MENTION] that said to access trail from the Clayton trail off Nine Pines Rd. It should be pretty interesting and a lot of fun! To all those considering going, please understand I have done the research, but have not run it myself. The situation seems pretty fluid down there as far as trail access, markings, and openings goes, so we'll have to approach this with an "adventuresome" state of mind.

I've also got a few friends here in Tulsa (FJ, JK, Taco) interested, but not committed.
I think it's vital we have a group of at least 3-4 for safety as this is a very isolated area (with potentially hostile locals). If we can get some solid commitments, along with ensuring we have the tools/ vehicle prep we need for a successful run, I think this could make for an awesome weekend.....maybe the first of many future trips!

After some of the stories I've read, I think we'd be better off not spending the night on the trail. I think the areas on each side of the trail are private land anyway.
I think we should prepare for a night on the trail, but try for a daytime run
But, I would be open to spending Friday Or Saturday night off the trail.
Any of you more experienced guys have an opinion? From what I've read the KT is mostly primitive road with some tight/ technical sections, so I don't think 40miles/ day sounds unreasonable if we get a good early start. We also have the highway crossing at the half-way point if things get real bad.

I think 40 miles will be about 4-5 hours. I'd prefer to spend the night on Friday and drive home afterwards. I'll probably just sleep in my truck.
There is Clayton Lake State Park there for $12 a site. They just had 4" of rain so a fire shouldn't be a problem. There is also robbers cave state park too about 10 miles north of Clayton.
Anyone have a carry licence? I don't (keep putting it off...), but I'll still bring a gun just can't keep it loaded. I'll bring a big chain saw.

Friday night camping/ meet-up sounds good to me. I've heard good things about both Robber's cave and Clayton Lake SPs. I guess Clayton Lake would be easiest. Thanks for volunteering the chainsaw!
Yep, I'm a CC holder as are my friends who are coming and I will be exercising my 2A rights, lol.

I have a CB. I do not have my permit in hand but I turned in my paperwork at the end of January so hopefully will have it before the trip. Friday night camping would work for me, I have heard good things about Robbers Cave but I have never been. I might have a buddy in an FJ that would come, I'll talk to him today.

I don't see this being any harder than colorado trails, I think you'll be fine absolute worst case we do some "trail maintainace" and trim a few trees...
