OME 883 with LC8 Wrap a good combo?

I'm ordering parts for my lift this week and was planning on ordering an OME 3" lift kit, but my truck will not be carrying around much extra weight. Maybe some tools in the back, but not 100lbs of gear when I drive to work every day. I don't plan on replacing bumpers or anything like that right now.

I want 3" of lift, but it seems that all the 3" lift OME springs are rated for some sort of additional weight, and I don't want the suspension to be too rigid or bouncy. I know it will be stiffer regardless, but I want to minimize it.

I've decided to use Land Cruiser 8 wrap coils for the rear with OME soft valve shocks, since I've read the springs ride good (and I'm ok with a little rear rake) but I'm wondering if these will be appropriate with the 883 coils in front, since they are described as a +weight coil.

Thanks let me know if I'm over thinking this

Personally I am in the same boat. At this moment I am installing OME 883s and 890s with Bilstein 5100s all around. Most of the time I have stuff in my trunk but not an excessive amount of extra weight. I have read multiple posts and such but in the end found that in order to get the extra 3" the 883's are the way to go. There was another post on here giving an entire outline and what it came down to was the fact that if you go 881's up front it gives you around 2.5" and then in order to get the full 3" you have to get the additional top plate spacers. I really didn't want spacers in there for personal opinion but thats up to you.

funny that this post just came up...im in the same boat. just received my 891 & 883 springs. From what ive read it all comes down to the driver. Some say is harsh and some are ok with it or feel it smooth.

Well I'm going to buy the 883's. I guess I'll eventually post the results here or something and give my thoughts.

I have the 883s with a TJM front bumper, but my 3rd gen is 2wd so less weight up front than a 4wd. The front is stiff but I am not bothered by this. I also have 7 wraps in the rear and really like them. I think if you are not adding extra weight up front (bumper, winch) the 881s and top plate spacer might be best. But again, it is your ride and your call. Best of luck.

I have 883 coils up front with an ARB bumper, Warn winch, and supercharger. They are great with all the weight. I think they would be really stiff if your front end is stock.

I agree on the 881s being a better option.

I've actually decided to do 881 coils with 1/2" poly spacers. I didn't realize how simple top spacers were to add to the whole deal, so this makes the most sense I think.

The lift info thread on this site suggests the 881 is a 2.5" lift coil, but Wheelers Offroad states 1.75" which is a weird discrepancy. I'm assuming it's actually 2.5" so a .5" spacer should get me to 3" just fine.

I run 881s up front with bumper and winch. It's super stiff. I highly recommend avoiding 883.

I would also recommend running LC tokico rear shocks. They pair very well with lc coils.

Do you carry extra weight in the back for the 891s?

usually just my tool bag just in case. other than that nothing. hopefully I cant get a rear bumper with swing out this tax season.

I went with 890s, because no bumper and stuff, but I carry more weight than I thought I would (tools, supplies, etc) most of the time, so I'm thinking of upgrading to 891s and maybe a swing-out bumper some day

Would like someone's impression of 891s sans bumper but with gear/load

So you have 881's which are the "standard" weight spring, and they feel stiff to you? Is this because they are partially compressed from your additional front weight?

I went with the 883/891 combo cause I'm planning on getting bumpers in the future and its also not my daily since I commute by train to work and also drive a prius ...its more like a weekend explorer. My wife wouldn't ride in it as much either so, it'll just be me and occasionally friends for camping trips and such

No it's because the ome setups are noticeably stiffer than anything else. Tundra coils, oem 99s, toytec, or high end coilovers will all give a better ride.

I second this. I have tokico and lc 8 wraps and couldn’t be happier. It’s a good setup for a decent price. Everyone’s different when it comes to firmness though.. I think lc tokicos and coils can be pretty firm but not jarring

did you not lose height with the bumper and winch? My 883 with bumper and winch 180# feel like back to stock height

Hey so when you say 5100’s all around. That’s where I’m confused …

I have 8 wrap LC front coils for me rear and I’ll buy the 883 font ome coils but for my setup which do I order 5100’s all around for a 99’4 runner or…

Like Do I order 5100 fronts that match stock LC80 coils which goes into my runner anyway ..

How’s that work now for the 5100’s to lift my 3rd gen
