OME 886 and 5100's Problem

Hey guys, I just recently installed OME 886's on my 4runner in preparation for my steel bumper coming in a week and when I drive it its pretty much bouncing up and down a few times after I go over bumps.. I had a shop do the coil swap for me and everything seemed correct when I installed them. Any help would be appreciated

Also as a side note I feel like I went much higher than I was anticipating I was gonna go

OME 886 springs are stiff (650lb coil rate) and tall. ARB recommends only running them with the bumper (which it sounds you already are getting)

Ride should be much smoother once you get that extra weight in the front.

Thanks for the feedback. Was planning on getting those springs, looks like I'll wait to install until I have the bumper installed

EDIT: Extra weight should bring the ride height down to closer to what you were expecting as well. If still bouncy, a winch on the bumper should further smooth the ride.

That's the thought I had in my head but it almost feels like I'm running hydraulics and bouncing up and down.. Guess I'll drive it until my bumpers here since I don't have a choice and see how the bumper helps it out.. Thanks for the response man

Also with further investigation I'm 1 clip setting up from the bottom.. I haven't heard of people preloading the 886's before.. I was at the lowest clip setting before I brought the shocks to the shop

You're welcome :)

Interested to see if the bumper fixes it as I am going almost the same route =)

I'd get them back to the shop and fix that preload. Those 886s shouldn't be preloaded on a 5100.

That is correct, 886's shouldn't be preloaded, especially without the additional weight of a steel bumper. You are basically riding around at full droop all the time and you are feeling the tires bounce over bumps/potholes. IIRC, the 886's are a 700 lb/in spring (pretty stout for our rigs).

Just for fun, post a pic of you CV and tierod angles for us.

I have the same setup and I can tell you it rides better with the bumper but since the valving of the bilstiens doesn't match the ome it's still not an great ride. Still good though.

Same setup as well. Valving wise, its at the limit of the 5100s but they are long enough for the 886 coils which works out better than the ome nitros. Very heavy front end!

This is lowest clip setting for the 5100's though correct?

That's what I remembered reading.. Already pulled em off the truck again or I would of posted the pictures Let's just say a quick spin to the gas station down the road and back blew a boot

Seems like its already been answered...

No need to preload, the OME spring will get you there... its a much stuff spring as well so you need some more weight without that bumper on there.

That said, I still think you might be at the limit of that 5100... They ride on from stock to 2" of lift but personally I think there are better choices to be had.

I wonder if the OME Nitrocharger shock would have probably paired better? They probably have their valving matched well for their own springs, also not that much more cash over the 5100.

I run 5100 in the rear, and they make a good street setup but leave a bit to be desired off-road.

Which is why it makes sense to go with OME shocks designed for the springs vs Bilsteins which are not. I'm not a fan of the mix & matching so many people here like.

I am planning to get rid of the 5100's at some point.. On a budget at the moment and don't have the time nor the money to let my truck sit for a week while ome struts ship. As for the rear the next step is Metaltech LT

Got the clip setting lowered and reinstalled and it feels like a Limo compared to how it was before 20160924_111352.jpg
