OME Springs for a V8

I have done a search and found differing opinions on the OME springs for a V8 4x4.

Some say 884 is too soft and not much lift. Others say 885 is too stiff. What can I expect out of either spring for lift and ride characteristics? My V8 is a Sport Edition so it has XREAS, but that will be removed. I do prefer a sporty stiff ride to a floaty one any day so please tell me what the real differences are. I already have sliders and will maybe add skids and a roof rack, but no bumpers or outrageous weight additions beyond that.

Also, anyone know what the difference is between a yellow OME Bilstein and a Bilstein 5100? Is it the same shock body with a coil built onto it and the ability to adjust lift/stiffness?

How much lift are you looking for? If not much, maybe FJ springs might give a better ride than OME. If you want a sporty ride though, sounds like CO's in the front and a quality set-up in the rear might be a better option for what your looking for.

I want as much lift as possible and for it to sit level without having to buy new UCAs. Current ride is fine, but maybe a tad too soft.

Ok, so to sit level and use stock UCA's your looking at 3/2 lift. Not sure in your budget, but I would recommend just going to CO's if you want a good ride. I love my "custom" OW set-up, but any quality set-up will ride good as long as you get it to match your 4R's weight

I have OME 884s up front and Toytec Superflex springs in the rear and am using FJ TRD Edition (Bilstein) shocks all around. I am extremely happy with what I have. I have a tiny bit of rake in the front, but nowhere near as much as stock. If you don't want any rake at all, get the Toytec Front Top Plate Spacer Kit, which will level out the front with the back with the 884s and the Superflex coils.

Some people have gone with 885s without extra weight up front, but according to almost everyone I spoke with (guys at Toytec, some 4x4 shops, on this forum, and over at toyota120), it will be too stiff of a ride and you have to get different shocks if you want to go with the 885s.
