on a budget and deciding on a '03 4runner...

Hi everyone, I just test drove drove a '03 4runner sr5 4wd v6 yesterday from the original owner, and I'm deciding on whether or not to get it. It is a one owner, he was the first and only owner/driver, with all maintenance paperwork and the original window sticker. Right now the car has 140k miles and he will let it go at $10,800. Because it has timing chain - he didn't do timing chain service on it, and he has paperwork for the regular oil change he has done on the car.

I offered 10k, but still contemplating on whether to offer more, or just wait and save more $ for a newer year, lower mileage, and limited edition...

what do you guys think??...

V6 doesnt have a timing chain soooooooo.........I'd def find out which service he is talking about. If he is trying to charge extra for that then i'd have him knock 500 off since that could have never been done.

what does the v6 have?? i thought the v6 has the chain, and the v8 has the belt?

Actually you have to reverse that, the v6 doesn't have timing belt but we have a timing chain.

Anywhere from 10 to 10.8 sounds like a good deal to me if it is in excellent condition with records. I wouldn't sell mine with almost that many miles for that amount! One thing to take into consideration in pricing an older vehicle is what wear items are coming due for replacement. Tires, shocks, brake pads, rotors, belts, hoses, complete fluid changes. They add up fast and what may seem like a bargain at first really isn't. Now if all of those have been recently done it may be a great deal vs a newer 4Runner that is due for all of that maintenance.

with the 4runner at 140k what kind of service are due and/or should be done already besides the one you listed already? and the v6 timing chain, does it need to be changed?

the guy already got new tires, brakes/rotors, replaced shocks, and battery.

Funny, I have almost the same vehicle, but a Sports Edition, and I only have 44,500 miles on it.
