? on new tires/sensors

I'm buying some new tires for my Runner and assumed that the sensors now on the originals would not be bothered. Am I wrong here or will I have to make sure that the shop that puts my new tires on does something extra or not? Am I worrying about nothing here?

I believe the sensors are on the rims not the tire so it shouldn't be a problem.

the sensors are on the rim and connected to the valves. I wouldn't worry about them. When I bought new tires, the people working there have seen many of these.

Any new vehicle starting in Sept. 2007 has to have tire pressure sensors and many manufacturers already use them.

Any reputable shop should know how to handle this. If you feel they don't know what they are doing, just go to the dealer. All 2004 Plus 4Runners have them.

Although the active sensors have been on cars for a few years now, I think many shops still don't expect the sensor to be part of the valve stem. There are horror stories posted here on the forum, and it costs about $100 to replace one of the sensors.

It's not hard to mangle the sensor when breaking the tire off the rim, especially if you don't know it's there. There are good tire places out there, but at the very least I'd make a point of telling them about the fact that the sensor is there and it's integrated with the valve stem.

And it's not crazy to consider having a Toyota dealer do the job IF they have the tires you want for a reasonable price. Big "if", I know, but it's worth checking. At least that way the dealer has no one to blame but themselves if something happens.
