On the front page: What do the “year specific” links under 3rd Genaration do?

So under 3rd generation on the front page, each year is broken out and each one has a link. When I click on 2002 it just takes me to the general 3rd generation page. Is it supposed to be doing something else that I missing out on?

No, I've never seen them do anything else. I think it was an idea that was never built out.

It simplifies the site for noobs. Not everyone knows their vehicle's "generation", so when you need to find info quick then it's easier to click on the year. Best part: some people still manage to post in the wrong section.
