hi guys im on the process on purchasing a 3rd gen 4runner, lately ive been having a hard time looking for a mint or somewhat descent condition, i went to the dealership yesterday and found a 2000 4runner limited going for $11,995 with 97,411 miles with clean car fax one owner on it, currently i drive a 2004 acura rsx 5 speed with 53k on it and 1 accident and im the original owner, when i looked at the 4runner it had few problems with it the exhaust had a leak on it and the tires were worn out, i told the dealer the issue and i told him i have to spend money to fix those problems, so i made a deal with him i told him ill straight up trade my car for the 4runner with them fixing the issues on it, the dealer went to talk to the manager and the manager came and he still wants me to pay $4500 on top of my 2004 acura rsx with 53k miles, basically im just wondering if this is a good deal or not? or are they trying to milk me for some cash?

definetly a bad deal....

try looking on this forums classifields u could find one with some mods already and well taken care of.

or try looking in the auto trader, 11k is pretty steep... i wouldnt pay more than 6-8k for a 96-02 4runner.

when searching make sure its 4x4 if thats what your looking for, is it for daily? or do you plan on wheeling it? or maybe a little of both...

goodluck with your purchase, alot of useful info on this forum, your best bet is to sell your rsx for cash privately and take the cash in hand to find a 4runner :)

Are they trying to milk you? Hell yeah, it a dealership, it's what they do.

Take your car to carmax and see what they'd buy it for so you can have more ammunition for the dealer.

Your best bet is to buy and sell privately.

Bad deal! run. I just bought a 2000, clean carfax T4R with 111k miles on it for $8k... one small ding, but perfect interior, paint shines, and runs well. It took me well over a month to find the best deal in my area. So keep searching... if you can swing it, buy the T4R and sell the RSX privately.

I can say that the runners I looked at were between 1999-2002 and the prices ranged from $8900 to about $11000... the $11k was for an '02 limited with 90k miles on it. So I think the dealer is asking a bit much... I would say 10k would be okay if the tires are good, brakes are good, and all routine maintenance is documented.

That is an awful deal, but it's to be expected from a dealership. They're only going to make a deal where they are going to make money.

Where are you located? That price is pretty steep, even if you were around here where Toyota 4wds seem to carry a premium.

I would also agree that the best way to go about it is to buy it (at hopefully a more reasonable price) and sell your MDX privately. I'd say the only way trading in makes sense is if the car you are trading it in for far exceeds the value of the car you are trading in.

Good luck!

If i was looking at spending 11k on a 4runner, it needs to be in perfect mechanical condition. If the dealership wants to take 4500 on top of your car, then walk away with your finger in the air IMO because thats the definition of the stealership. I think your acura is worth more than 6500 dollars. Im looking at a 98 T4R with 99k miles on it for 6500. Take your time and find something a little more reasonable and it will come. These trucks will last 300k miles so the difference between 99k miles and 150k miles really isnt that much.

Good luck on your search, or your purchase depending on what you do

Best Holiday Wishes, Chase

Thanks for your advice guys, i think im just gonna wait till i sell my acura for $10k and just look for a 4runner for $8k, the dealeships are just gonna keep low balling me..

try CARMAX

Prior to buying my T4R i sold my Subaru to Carmax. The price was probably lower then what id get running ads and selling it myself. But not having to deal with the stress and hassles it was worth it in the long run. CARMAX is hassle free and within a hour i had a bank draft and i was on my way. Its worth a try is all im saying.
