Onboard Air Compressor Suggestions?

Hi All,

I'm looking for those out there that have hard-wired and mounted an air compressor in their 4th Gen. Where did you mount it, which one did you get, and how do you like it?

I'm surprised there hasn't been more response to this. I assumed there were many 4Runners out there that had onboard air. Dang....maybe only Jeepers are that hardcore?

I went on my first trip to Cape Hatteras this weekend, and will be there often in the future.

On board air would be awesome for airing down the tires for getting to some of the good surfing spots.

I'll be buying something (either portable or underhood) in the next few weeks.

You can create a co2 setup using a 10# bottle (15 or 20 if you air up a lot) with a 150# regulator, some fittings and a polyurathane hose.

Check out a local fire extinguishing store for the bottle, and online for a regulator.

Home Depot or Lowes for the CO2 hose and inflator.

Refills are relatively cheap, and the best part is, it takes 30 seconds to air up one tire.

Kim Boy - Is CO2 ok for Tires?

I work for a company that does a lot of equipment for different customers who use CO2 in there processes and we have to be very particular about using rubber components that are compatible.

What would be damn cool is a nitrogen cylinder on board ... that stuff is very tire friendly.

I'm not sure how much a nitrogen cylinder recharge costs. CO2 systems are cheap and effective.

Yeah, 70% of the air we breath is nitrogen.

For CO2, I would recomend a google search. I'm sure there are plenty of write ups on 4x4 sites with reviews.

You can also run air tools with a CO2 setup.

I was checking out extreme air and ARB compressors. So far, it seems like ARB is cheaper and offers more bang for the buck, especially if you decide at one point to add Air lockers. Both deliver approximately the same air flow (in cfm), but the ARB unit retails for about $240-$280. The Extreme-Air unit seems to be retailing around $370 - $420.
