One more question about disabling DRL

Did a search and got a lot of hits on how to disable the daytime running lights on my 2005 4R limited...I think I know how, maybe???!!

My question is, when my (DRL) are on, my dash lights are also on. The dash lights being on is what I don't like about the setup most of all. Point being, changing a burned out dash light would be a major hassle, and also with the DRL's working and you crank up in a parking lot at night you see the dash lights on and not thinking drive off with only the DRL working. (I know, I have the limited and can use the 'auto' feature on headlights, but don't want to!)

If you do the relay mod to disable the DRL suggested in the forum will it also disable the dash lights being on? That's my *main* beef about the DRL, not really having 'them' on, just the dashlight issue.

Dash lights are ALWAYS on in the 2k4+ models. There were complaints that it was heard to see the dash, so now the lights are always on, even if you don't have DRL

oh yeah, don't worry too much about replacing the lights behind the dash. They are LED and should last the lifetime of the vehicle

Agreed, as far as I know the dash lights are always on and have no relationship to the DRL system. If you just want to disable your dash lights, that's probably doable though.

Personally, I like the auto on/off feature (from the Limited) so much that I added it to my SR5.

Thanks a lot for the replies! I don't mind the DRL that much...it is the dash lights that had me concerned about burning out, but if they are LED I'll forget that issue. Guess I will start using the 'auto' position on my headlights then...with the Toyota they only stay on about 20 seconds if I recall correctly. What I once didn't like was a Lincoln that had them, and stayed on for about 2 minutes or so...always worried they would 'stick' in the on position!!
