One more question on the 2006 sport

In order to get the jbl synthesis system we would have to order and wait 2 months. There is no vehicle in our location with the synthesis system, so we are not able hear it. Is it worth the extra $800.00 and 2 month wait?

Dunno about the JBL but for a few hundred bucks more you can buy an aftermarket nav unit. I'd do that rather than pay a premium for dealer-installed equipment.

Not worth it. I wanted the JBL, ended up without it. I've now heard the JBL and I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money.

I did get the 6 disc changer though, that's nice.

Also, I used my backup mirrors yesterday in a parking lot yesterday. They came in handy.

If you don't mind the wait and are not a true audiophile, then i would get one with JBL. JBL option is a good choice. It may not be the top end stereo system in more expensive cars, but it is pretty good for $800 upgrade. You will not be able to upgrade with aftermarket audio stuff that will sound as good for under $1000. So, it is a bargain IMHO.

The JBL is in my opinion not worth $800. However I am an audiophile and I could get a lot more aftermarket for 800 then the JBL has to offer. I only got the JBL because I would have had to order a runner to get one I liked without that option and the wait was not worth it for me. If you found one you like and the JBL is the only option you want and aren't getting, I woud get it. Go spend that much and get higher quality components elsewhere. The JBL sounds good yes, but for 800 bucks it should sound a heck of a lot better, and be a lot louder for that matter.

I am actually probably going to be pulling my JBL system out in about a month or so and replacing it with an aftermarket....

Sketch...what can you get aftermarket for $800?? You would need an amplifier, speakers, and possibly a headunit/CD changer.

You could get a nice headunit for about 150-200 (not the best features but good SQ). An Alpine 50x4 amp for 200 on Crutchfield. A nice component set for the front $170-200 (found Polk, Infinity and Kicker in that range). And you can find some nice 5 1/4" rear speakers for around 150. The only thing you are lacking in this setup is a subwoofer. Which you can an 8" selfpowered woofer for 100-150.

So If you bought all of that at the higher end you would be paying $900. A little more if you want the sub. And that pricing is without checking around, I pulled all that off crutchfield in about 10 minutes. And in my opinion that would perform better than the JBL system.

You would have more power going to your speakers which will give you better SQ and you would be using powered preouts to your amps from the headunit, rather than the speaker wire coming out of the JBL. I am not saying the JBL is bad. I am just saying if I had to wait 2 months (which probably will be much longer, look at Atomic, he waited what 6 months?) I would ditch the idea of a JBL system and buy my own, so you can get exactly what you want.

Also as you said, Thai, you are not able to upgrade with other aftermarket things, and if I would have known that I would not have gotten it.

In addition to the increased cost of the JBL system, keep in mind it's much easier (and cheaper) to rip out the bare-bones stock system than the JBL, if you think you'll EVER consider adding nav or a new head unit.

Let me tell you, though...the stock unit SUCKS...so in no event would I recommend getting that unless you're going to swap it out.

decent prices, however non-audio folks would pay for installation prices.

Also need to take in fact you you making payments on it adding 800 to total cost of 4R. Which makes montly payments higher and you paing allot more then 800 for it after you add finance charges.

Were if you even just used a CC or saved cash you come out cheaper. its what I did. I lowered payment and have allot better system in it for less money.

Install can be cheap, we have a place that does $1 installs, and you can talk other places down on install prices. YOu just go in and say give me the best price on a package installed then go to another place a pit them against eachother.

Ignore the sticker price, I spent $1600 on my stuff including the blackbird, and I think sticker was about $2500

thoughts..

I am impressed with the quality of the JBL system in my 06'... It sounds great enough to not have me worried about needing a better system. I'm not a -huge- fan of doing audio upgrades post-market because it becomes addicting and the research that goes into making sure you have the best components just takes me a lot of time when i'd rather be passing out on the beach or something. It's nice having everything i want all wrapped up in a worry-free box.

If i ever wanted to upgrade the jbl system i'll have to wait for a harness that will let me connect any headunit to the digital input on the jbl amp. That I can wait for. Because by then i'll want to upgrade the headunit to something wacky like a carPC or something else funky if i decide to keep the truck forever.

If anything, the 10 speaker system fills the vehicle excellent from all seats. If you've got problems with some of the stock speakers (i think someone complained about the rear surround ones cracking) go ahead and replace them... but i recommend getting everything you want in your car and saving your pennies down the line, because once you buy the car it's a sunk cost. focus on the future and if audio upgrades are not in your future because you got what you want then you can spend your money elsewhere.

It's worth it. Who wants to go through all the BS of taking apart your dashboard, door panels and re-wiring speaker, amps, headunits? Unless you plan on spending 3x what the JBL costs on a high-end, custom system, I seriously doubt you'd get better sound for $800 aftermarket once you take into consideration labor, parts and equipment. Plus it's covered under warranty if something goes wrong, a speaker blows, cd player fries, etc. Whatever you decide, you can't go wrong with the truck!

Matter of opinion I guess. My understanding of the questions is if the JBL is worth $800 and worth a 2 month wait. IMHO it is not, and you absolutely can spend 800 and get a better system installed, at least in Colorado.

Lots of people want to, I for one love doing that stuff, in fact tonight I am ripping EVERYTHING out of my mustang, (seats, carpet, dash, door panels, center console, if its got screws, its coming out), to uninstall my old stereo to reuse some of it in my runner. Don't think that just because you don't enjoy that stuff that no one else does either. It is a great feeling of satisfaction to do it yourself.

Another option would be to just upgrade the speakers on the standard system. Any audio system is only as good as its speakers.

BTW, what makes the JBL system so difficult to remove?

Here is what i put in mine. ya little overboard but i like my music and it made the factory speakers sound allot better. Grabted i will upgrade them later but changing the radio to a decent 3-400 range one makes a big differance. If you get a Panasonic/Eclipse forget other one you can still use stearing wheel controls if you have that option on yours. Then there is no reason you cant drop 2 10's and a amp in it. For another 3-400. You will end up with a much better system.

The HU makes a huge difference as well, just upgrading the HU on the stock stereo makes a huge difference using the stock speakers.... What makes the removal of the JBL system difficult is that you have to remove everything, HU, Amp, wiring, speakers, its not as simple as the stock stereo.

my take on this.

i also have the jbl with 10 speakers, the sound quality is decent enough overall. sound quality on the jbl 10 speakers is excellent compare to the 6 speakers. its just the "cool" factor to have a "top of the line" car audio system something to show off. unless you live in your vehicle then get the high end stuff :). top of the line audio system belongs to my abode. jbl 10 speakers to my 4R.
