Yes this is interesting but one can argue the damage is only at the roof so of course it will still drive but would it have damaged the drive shaft, etc if it were not a body on frame construction. I would like to think this made a difference.

yeah see my sig.... the people making the argument that there's no reason it shouldn't have driven away have no idea of the sheer size and force the tree hit the truck with,the whole thing bounced a good foot off the ground with the first impact before settling in a cloud of dust and glass with the frame and spare tire pushed a few inches down into the dirt and mud.... all it really did was blow the just replaced axle seals out, though the shafts were fine,rear diff and locker were fine, frame was fine, ect... and i would like to think the truck is back on the road today though i cannot confirm that...really there was a lot that tree could have broken from the middle of the car back that could have stopped it from driving "perfectly" fine after that happened.....

just to try and give you a sense of scale, notice how far away the 4runner is from the base of the tree.... maybe 30 feet or more?

and then the tree went maybe another 30 feet or so off the other side of the road, i never got a full photo to show the complete length

Wow. That is incredible. The sheer weight would have destroyed most trucks/cars.

meh, it's life , i got the same exact truck spec for spec within 5~6 days , Canadian import and everything, the only thing it really cost me was a few months of my time and around 2k in taxes to the man that insurance didn't cover....the most annoying part is re-doing all of the standard maintenance work on the new truck considering the old one was up to snuff in every way...so i guess in the end it's costing me alot more than i original had thought, just having to do things like ball joints,axles seals and all of the rest...i was more upset 3~4 weeks after this happened that i was when the tree first smacked it...:hurt:

but like i said in the orginal thread, i'm just glad we weren't sleeping in the back that weekend and glad that my wife had missed the whole things by a matter of 2~3 minutes as she was just up there getting firewood from the back.....
