Hey all!

It has been a very very long time since my last visit to this forum.

I purchased my 4Runner in March of 2006 during my freshman year of college.

I have since graduated, moved into a house, and cleaned and prep'd the garage for DIY work on the truck!!

The 4Runner is a 1997, Limited 4x4 with the dark green/grey/brown coloring. The car has roughly 170k miles...

My intentions are to create a very capable, stylish, and usable offroad vehicle. It will not be my daily driver as I have a separate work vehicle.

I hope to start off the build by taking care of a leaky head gasket, and basic engine maintenance including new plugs and wires.

Following the basic maintenance will be new bushings in the front suspension components including the steering rack.

This will be quickly followed by the installation of a lift, wheels, tires, front bumper, roof rack, winch, etc....

Please forgive me as I will have many questions for everyone along the way, as I am a slight novice in the offroad world. As I said above, I will be doing all of the work myself.

So I ordered my first batch of basic maintenance parts!!!

Sorry about the pics.. Home after dark every night.. Will take some soon!


This morning before work I ordered:

B&M SuperCooler 14.4k BTU model
NGK Laser Platinum Plugs
NGK Wire Set
Valve Cover Gasket Set
Plenum Gasket

I figured Id start with some basic maintenance procedures, as I have NO idea how long new plugs have been, and the valve cover has been leaking for some time...

Lame first things to buy, but you have to start somewhere right?

Of course!! There absolutely will be "building" going on.

Is it bad that I don't want to skip right past stuff that will ensure my runner runs perfectly after I "build" it??

I don't want a junky smelly engine from the leaky valve cover gaskets, and I definitely don't want a milkshake...

Holy Crap 2% tint!

Thats what the installer said the "resulting" tint will be after installing 15% over the stock rear tinting...

Spent some time today removing the Running Boards (long time overdue), replacing the valve cover gaskets, manifold gaskets, plugs, and wires.

I can't believe Ive had this runner for 5 years and never thought about removing the running boards. It almost looks lifted... Well for me anyway...

Next up are the steering rack bushings and sway bar bushings...

Then finally on to more "buildish" things including painting of my rims, and doing the tundra brake mod..
