Ooops I left the EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED!!

The other night I had to park on a hill and needed to use the emergency brake.

When I came back to leave I did not take the emergency brake off for a little bit.

"a little bit" means I drove about 1/4 mile before I actually noticed that it was on. I was leaving a parking lot then got on a reg city road trying to go 40 mph and heard clunk clunk clunk faintly. That is when I notice oh Sh*t! So i disengaged the parking break and kept on going. Everything seems fine.

I am worried I damaged something but I dont think so. The emergency brake seems to work just fine and my reg brakes work great.

How does the emergency brake work on the 4runner? Does it use the wheels breaks or is it another brake all on its own?? should i be worried???

If it's 1st or 2nd gen 4runner, I know for sure that it's working on the rear brake shoes. IT shouldn't be damaged if you only drove it 1/4 mile...

In the 3rd and 4th gen I think it's similar to the Land cruiser 90 & 120.
There are brake shoes inside the discs in the rear that the EB works on.
There for there are different brake shoes for the rear brakes and the emergency brakes.

It couldn't have been engaged too tight if you drove away with it still engaged. If you have it engaged tightly, you'll really have to work to overcome it.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Also, I believe the e-brake on the 4Runner is a small brake shoe inside the rear rotor housing that is separate from your rear brake pads.
