Oops?! No Catalytic Converter!

Took my truck in for inspection and was told that my Catalytic Converter is missing! The Guy I bought it from put on a new exhaust sytem and added dual exhuast but did not put back on the converter!:bash: Even If it was no longer working he could have hollowed it out and re-mounted it So that it would pass inspection. Luckly the garage gave me a sticker anyway ( I love country Boys).
So where do I go from here? I don't know much about my emission system, except that it is inoperative. Should I bypass or disconnect the eger valve and canaser. I know I can't afford all the parts involved at this moment.
All suggestions are welcome.
Feel like an A-- for not noticing, just wasn't what I was looking for when I bought a truck with new dual exhaust System

I don't think you need a cat, but if you do want to put one back on they are pretty expensive.

Is it throwing any codes?

If you need to pass periodic smog testing (not just post purchase) to renew tabs or whatnot...then you are going to have a hard time passing the visual.
You can pick up an aftermarket cat for less than $100. I actually saw a cat that was totally hollowed out to 2 1/4" just for the purpose of passing visual smog tests. They were sold with the disclaimer of a novelty item, hehe. They were also rather cheap. If you price one from Toyota they are going to be very expensive compared to aftermarket free flowing cats.

And by all means, leave your EGR and other smog realted equipment alone, you gain nothing by removing it and only cause problems. Your EGR plays a very important role in keeping your head temperature down and does no harm to your MPG or performance.

Yes it won't hurt any not having the cat except for inspection time.The novelty cat sounds good but I haven't seen one.When I do my exhaust I'll have a novelty cat too.As long as everything is working I'd leave it alone

I'm just going to point out that I love living in Wisconsin, where no emissions testing is required.

No emissions testing here in FLA My truck still has the CAT but, I think it is hallowed out. The truck came with a LC Engineering header and a 2" exhaust with Dynomax muffler. I'm guessing that when the exhaust was done the CAT was gutted.....

Well guess my question is there anything I can do to make sure the job was done correctly or is it just a matter of having one in place or not?
My truck misses at idle, could it have something to do with my emissions system? Judging from some of the messes I 've had to clean up after this guy, I would not be suprised if he missed an important step somewhere.

I've lived in FL at one tme and saw some of the cars that drive the roads down there, pretty nuts.:wow: Va unfortunetly does have inspection. which Is why I think it's crazy that dude didn't at least put a gag cat on. I'm really lucky I happened upon someone who would pass it, not even knowing I need someone to over look it.

Your engine will run fine without a cat, it is only needed for lowering emissions. If you suspect that your miss at idle is related to your questionable emissions setup then take a look at your EGR diaphragm and compare the three vacuum lines(P, Q and R) to your under hood sticker. I had that as a problem when I bought my '87 this past summer. I think they had P and R crossed in my case, once I corrected that I had a better idle but my TPS was bad at the same time.
