opinions on 2 4runners I'm looking at!?!!!!!

Could use some opinions.

Looking at two 4runners both 4wd.

First up is a 2002 silver with tan interior. Has 150,000 miles on it. Timing belt was done at the dealership last week. Asking price is 9000


Second is a 2000 black Sport?!!??! Comes with the fake hood scoop. Has the rear locker. Mileage is around 135,000 and asking price is 8500. Water pump/timing belt done about 20,000 miles ago and 1.5 years ago.


Interiors on both are nice...

Really just looking to see if the prices are inline and if there is anything model specific i need to look at!!!

I'd go with the 2000 myself, just for the locker alone, but YMMV.

Definitely the 2000 black sport, rear locker, less miles, and the tb still has another 80K if need be. Most people run the stock ones to 100K. And its cheaper. Good luck with purchase! :bigok:

I'm leaning towards the 2000 model personally.

A couple quetions about it..

1.) Does the rear locker work in 4lo only or 4hi and 2hi as well?
2.) The ABS light came on when i was in 4lo with the rear locker on...is this normal.


The 2000 has the older style interior but I kind of like it...its a blue/gray tweed. It appears to be a simpler setup than the 2002...hopefully less stuff to go wrong.


I'm just guessing that I can probably get 19-20mpg highway out of these?


Also the 2000 has some black color matched tape or protective film applied that is just starting to crack a little bit. Was this a factory option and if so can it be replaced?

From the factory, the locker only engages in 4Lo... the "Blue Wire Mod" can easily be done so it works in any mode.

It is normal... It is indicating that your ABS system is disabled while the locker is engaged.

I have pulled 21.4mpg on a road trip so it is possible depending on the weight of your right foot...

The "tape" is basically a color matched "film" thats been applied to the front bumper and front of the rear view mirrors. Its to protect chips/scratches.

Probably the best choice is the one with the best PROVEN maintenance history of regular oil changes ect., and who drove it. (Teenager = bad, easy going adult = good)

Can they show proof of the timing belts.

Rear locker is cool , wish I had one, but if you are buying it for a daily driver and staying on the pavement it is not really needed. The 4wd alone is pretty good.

Both prices sound abit high but that depends on where you are at.

The 2000 sport without a doubt. I wouldn't get any 4Runner newer than a 2000, they got too damn technical with them.

No brainer, the 2000 Sport without any doubt as long as it checks out mechanically.

2000 2wd auto w 165k gets just over 21mpg w mixed driving; however, you can't drive it like a 2011 model.
I just bought mine last month in Houston for $6k, very nice 1 owner with all service records. No regrets, except for the black paint shows every scratch. Those prices sound a little high but not too bad...
