I am thinking of purchasing a 4Runner from a co worker. It's the cleanest 3rd gen I have ever seen in person and I have owned several. It'll be my wife's dd and not see many miles. What do y'all think this is worth!?

2001 Limited 4x4, 90k, new OME 2 inch lift, new bfgs, new arb bumper and a little winch.

Nice looking rig! I've seen asking prices over 12K with mileage that low. No doubt 8-10K is attainable. People who ask that much don't sell in a hurry from what I've seen. And often have to drop the price. Many times the right deal is made by being there at the right time. Co-worker situation makes it hard to bargain hard, not the same situation. It's certainly worth more than average, that's for sure.

So why do you call that woman a wench?

What do you mean by little winch? Is that an ATV winch?

That truck is almost priceless with the little wench as long as she can cook, clean, wrench on the truck & perform other services while driving! :biggrin2:

Might be worth 15K to someone, certainly not me. You can get a 150K rig for 6K, spend 3K on accessories and you have one almost as clean, and definitely just as good. Then again, does your wife need an ARB bumper and a 9 foot tall roof rack?

Agree with above. That is too much. I saw a 4th gen 4runner 4x4 with low miles (<100K) one owner for like 18,000 somewhere in TX CL.

I purchased my vehicle for exactly half that with a lift, shrock bumper, winch, roof basket (just like that one, actually) and new off road tires with probably under 10k on them. Granted my miles are 220k but I don't think 130k miles is $7,500 IMO

It's worth whatever you're willing to pay. I don't say that to be pithy, but with the condition, add ons and age, it's hard for me to base a solid number. It's an enthusiasts dream, so I suggest you move on it and let the seller name a price, then negotiate from there if you're willing to be in that ball park. If my truck were totaled tomorrow, I'd pay a pretty penny for that one.

$15K is definitely overpriced but in the market where nice low mileage runners like that are getting harder and harder to find I can see the value. I think 3rd gen has hit the bottom of the depreciation curve a few years back and now they are starting to go up in value (at least from what I've been seeing).

Certainly a good find and I hope you get it down to a win-win price point. Good luck.

I paid 1/2 that for mine, from my dealer friend - 2000 4Runner SR5, v6, 4x4, auto with 129,600 Km (equals 80,500 miles).
- 1 senior owner / garage kept
- original paint / rust free / mint paint & interior
- serviced at Lexus/Toyota dealer / they flipped T4R in a dealer-2-dealer auction...vehicle too old for their upscale car lot
- brand new 16" Bridgestone tires, 2 months before trade in
- timing belt replaced, water pump & new radiator @ 68,000 miles

That looks great. I love my 02 limited, but my driver leather seat and steering wheel need to be reupholstered. Surprised how nice those still are. I wish I could find a nice low mile limited in 4wd. On a side note, how do you own a car for 15 years and only put that many miles on it. My 09 is at 105k and my 02 is at 200 lol.


If you want it I'd move on it. I would pay that price for it. How I see it is I'm not in the market for one because it's a cheap used car, I can afford a 2016 limited if I wanted a newer 4runner or buy a beater if I was on a budget. I'm in the market for one because it's the best 4runner design ever made, it's specifically what I want, and it's very hard to find one in almost perfect condition, especially under 100 mi.

My $0.02, a winch bumper and mud terrain tires mean they either loved the look or loved to wheel. If the latter might be needing more maintenance. I'd have a long look underneath, looking for skid plate scrapes, packed mud, leaks and such. Even a hard wheeled truck will clean up nice for photos, but you can't hide hard wheeling on the underside.

This is also a good point. I have a 2wd mall crawler because I like the look lol. Also, I figure I can just throw everything on a different runner when I finally find a low mile 02 limited 4wd.

E-locker was dropped in 2000... but 01-02 have traction control and VSC which are arguably more useful in most foul driving conditions... but you won't be climbing rocks until you change the rear end.

There's a great post on here somewhere that explains every 4WD configuration offered and per model year changes.

Yeah that was a slip up. I meant 4wd, I would likely add a locker for more function that I don't need. The most I ever do is stick to trails for a little nondestructive fun, hiking, hunting, and mtb.
