Opinions on Alpine PSU-300FRN sub kit

for the price I would go factory enclosure. for about $180 + $200 sub. Even running the stock JBL speaker was pretty good. With my $60 Skar 8" sound great. missing the low response like the jl 8w3, but for $60...

I would LOVE to know where I might find a JBL OEM enclosure for ~$200!! Please help! I have a buddy that was going to go this EXACT route and found the Alpine wouldn't fit under seat either. I cant find that plastic enclosure for him for anywhere near that even on ebay and such.

Do you know if your friend has a manually adjusted passenger seat?

That's the speaker box with the speaker, you can order it without the speaker as well for cheaper

Yeah, I helped a couple other members get the speaker box, pretty sure they all went through the dealer

There is another part that I believe should fit as well. I don't know why it is cheaper:

That's the enclosure without the speaker as I mentioned above. That is what you want

Next up, since I only 2 rows and I don't have a sub already, I'll likely need at least this other part:

Lower Quarter Trim - Toyota (64730-35140-C0) - $312
I don't know what the trim piece looks like though as the line drawings are all the same and no actual photo.

Anyone else done this conversion/retrofit?

hmmm, yes you would need this piece, but it's for third row which sits higher

PSU-300FRN install

I just found out that the PSU-300FRN Alpine system is discontinued...but I was able to find a brand new one on Ebay.

Took me about 2.5 hours to install (I took my time as I didn't want any of the plastic bits to snap when removing the trim pieces).

After having it installed for a few days, I have to admit, I'm not that impressed with it. I've always had 500 watt mono amp powering a 10" shallow mount sub in all of my vehicles. That box would thump nicely and give you those earth shaking lows. This PSU-300FRN makes the stock speakers come to life and adds a better low end with the sub. If you're looking for something that you need to turn down because the bass is too powerful, this is not the right system for you. If you're looking to bring the crappy stock speakers to life and add a sprinkle of bass to the truck, this is for you. It's hard to say it was worth the $650+ for the alpine product. I'm going to explore adding a second PWES8 underneath the driver's seat and connecting using speaker level inputs.
