My wife left the house early this morning, and I noticed that she used the old car instead of the 4Runner. So as soon as she reutrned, I asked her why she used "my" car. I figured she wanted to burn my gas instead of hers.
She said "oh yea, some sort of warning light is on in the 4Runner". Turns out it was the TPMS warning light. I went to look at it, and my first clue was the completely flat right rear tire with a nail sticking out of it.
The vehicle has about 6,300 miles on it, and I had the tires rotated at the dealer at 5,000 miles. They did not include the spare into the rotation. I changed the flat and put the unused spare on (OEM Bridgestone HTs).
So now I have a brand new right rear tire on with three tires that have 6,300 miles on them.
Should I get the flat fixed and put it under as the spare, or should I put the spare back under and go with the repaired old tire?
I am wondering whether 6,300 miles is enough to make a difference in wear that it could adversely affect the drivetrain.
