Opinions on Nerf Bars

So I have the option to buy some nerf bars off an '02.

I recently took off my running boards.

Just wondering what ya'll opinion of them are.

How much would you pay for them? I know the Westin's are over $200.

Here is what they look like:

Appearance wise they do look good, but functionally I dont like them and would not get a pair. Off road they will definitely get in the way and be either ripped of or severely damaged. I always end up rubbing the back of my legs on them when getting in and out of the car and end up with crap on my pants!

Thanks for the opinion.

I don't do much offroading so I wouldn't really have to worry about that.

I just don't know if it is worth $130ish for pure looks.

I've had a pair of Westins for about 2 years now. They aren't as functional as the running boards, but they look way better. I still need a boost because I'm only 5'4". Running boards were easier for that purpose, but on my own ride, I voted for looks rather than functionality.

uwgrad- Weren't the Westin's over $200?

Thanks for the opinion p nut.

I like having the running boards off because it looks lifted and I thought nerf bars might look good while not taking too much away from the lifted look.

if they are in good condition with no rust, i think it might be a fair price. i would shoot for like 100 bucks or so. at least they arent chrome.

I picked the Westins up used off eBay for about $150 shipped, I think. The previous owner had them installed at the dealer when he bought his 02, but his son wanted a different set when he took it over. So I scored.

Yeah, maybe. BUT, at $130, you're half way there to a set of real rock sliders. Maybe even cheaper if you have a friend that welds. Why not save and invest in something like that? Even though you don't do much off-roading, it could come in handy someday. You can get them angled however you want, so you can use it as a step, too. :bigok:

Good point.

I think I'm going to hold off and just buy the newer headlights first.

ya good idea on holdn off, that color kinda looks "a little more "bling" than rugged. i like the look of them being more close to the doors. if you get them go black though (IMO) You mentioned in some other threads you maybe wanted some dark colored rims, the black would look good with dark rims. so ya i would suggest dressing it with what you want one step at time but its your truck for sure! Nerfbars are good for less wear on your front seat too
I think i picked up my westins (brand new) for $140-150?? i bought them the day i saw them!!

I honestly don't like the nerf bar- cab steps. But that's me. I totally support those that like them tho. I really want rock sliders because of the added protection. but if you like the tube-style nerfs. Get them. And post pics if you install them. You runner looks good either way
