Optimal Specs For Alignment After Daystar 2.5/1.5 Installation?

I am still having issues with getting the alignment correct on my 08 Urban Runner (18" wheels) with the Daystar 2.5/1.5 lift with the pre-load spacer. It doesn't track straight. The tires are like this \ / on the front. The right tire rubs the UCA at full turn but the left is fine. That happened after I took it to the dealership for an alignment. I can hear the tread grinding on the road with the windows down as the outside of the tires are touching the road more because of the \ / issue. I have taken it to Kauffman in Atlanta as well as Toyota Mall of GA and no one can seem to get it right. I saw someone on here posted the specs that he finally had to align it to in order to get it right. He was a Toyota service tech. Also if anyone knows of a shop in Atlanta that will actually take the time to get it right, I would appreciate that as well. :bigok:

Can you post a printout of the current alignment? Let's see what your working with. They should be able to get the camber (which gives you this \ / ) and toe to factory spec. Probably not with the caster. When you say it's not tracking right, do you mean it's pulling to one side? If I remember correctly factory specs call for a little positive camber ( which could give you \ / that look) around a quarter of a degree.

Yes it is pulling to the right on the highway no matter what lane I am in, (I am familiar with the road crown)

Also, I forgot to mention that the steering wheel is off to the right a bit. It was off to the left before the first alignment.

I will see if I can get the current values and post them here.

Here are the specs I have:

FL
Camber .6
Caster 2.6
Toe .03
SAI 11.2
Included Angle 11.7

FR
Camber .4
Caster 2.7
Toe .06
SAI 11.8
Included Angle 12.3

Front
Cross Camber .1
Cross Caster -.1
Cross SAI -.7
Cross Turn Diff .09

These numbers look good on paper, however when you can hear the outside tread rubbing hard on the pavement, something is amiss.

This was done at Toyota Mall of GA.

Does anyone in the Atlanta area know of a good alignment shop that will take their time and get this right?

Thanks!

On mine (Bilstein 5100 lift at 2.5" setting) I have to have the right caster set 1 degree more (in the positive direction) than the left caster to keep it from drifting. I've heard alignment shops say 1/2 a degree should suffice but on mine it takes a full degree of additional positive caster. Good luck!

im suprised the dealer could not get it done right. after i did my 2.5-1.5 lift i took to my dealer and they got it perfect the first time, tracks straight, wheel perfectly centered no rubbing. maybe they need to do it again.

I did my own. I was able to get the camber exactly at zero (where it should be) and the caster at 2.6 (right at the edge of spec). It took me almost an hour to balance the ellipticals to get it exactly right but it can be done. It tracks perfectly straight now. The only reason someone cant get it right is because they wont spend the time on it.

After looking at your numbers here is what I think.
1. The camber is too high. Anything over a half degree (.5) will wear the tires uneven, give the \ / look, and you will hear the tread. It should be around a quarter of a degree (.25 - I like mine about .15). Just because the numbers are within spec doesn't mean they are right.
2. That is probably about the most caster you will get out of the stock upper a-arms. It is just in spec I think. If it pulls to the right they will need to take out some caster on the left or add some to the right. Some vehicles need a whole lot of cross caster while others don't. Just because the numbers are within spec doesn't mean they are right. Trial and error.
3. The tires are rubbing on the uca because they are too wide. Try wheel spacers or wheels with less backspacing. They would probably rub on aftermarkey uca's too.
4. I would recommend a little more toe in. Just a touch. It should make it not so twitchy. They can fix the steering wheel not being centered while they are at it.

These are the things I would fix first. Remember, you altered the suspension from oem height so there may be some bugs to work out. Talk to the algnment guy yourself. Tell him what you are looking for. If he/she doesn't sound like they know what they are talking about take your 4runner elsewhere.
