Options after stupidity

So this morning I had a serious :ybrick: moment. I was moving some rocks above my driveway and tossed one onto the pile that then rolled off and took a b-line off of my retaining wall and bounced down my rear passenger door and got stuck between my rocker panel and the wall. :sobbing: This left a dent, scratch in the door and rocker.

Got it to a friend who owns a body shop and came up with a couple of options.

1. Fix the sr5 rockers
2. Buy the shrockworks rocker trim
3. Any other ideas? Anyone have used black sr5 pull-offs?

I'm on a pretty limited budget right now but I'm turning it into insurance so the Shrockworks would be covered but not enough to also do sliders. Also I have 5100s and some aggressive tires but I think the sliders would be a little much on a stock truck.

In that thread I linked to there is some discussion on the differences, you are paying for a better fit and I guess fiberglass over powdercoated steel maybe? The big difference to me is that the area at door seals seems to fit better with factory option according to that thread.
 
Yeah I was thinking the same thing, take care of it yourself and leave insurance out of it.

"They will get their money back." is the saying I hear all the time.

I have been with the same State Farm agent since I finished grad school, so about 25 years. Someone T-bone tapped my Forester about 6 years ago, the auto body repair place State Farm had it done did a pretty good job. I would go back to the same place.

If you are tight with your agent, explain what happened, and ask them what company they contracted for repairs, and just go there and don't file a claim. My agent would have no problem with that.

Throwing rocks at your 4Runner will not be your biggest mistake in life, ask anybody who has been divorced.

Fixed that for ya.

Seriously, it's a little dent and a scratch, it's not the end of the world. If you go running to your insurance company or spending hundreds of dollars out of pocket to fix every tiny little blemish, you're going to waste a lot of money and time.

It's a truck. Trucks get dented and scratched. Get that in your head and you'll have a much healthier relationship with your 4Runner. :)
 
Thanks for all the input, I'm going to look closer into the estimate to fix the stock rockers to see what will be best.

Talked to the insurance company today, they told me it's only a 100 deductible and will not affect my rates because it was not a collision. So everything should be a non issue soon.
