Options for repairing chipping clear coat

Well I bought my new 4runner simply because it had low mileage, and an E-locker. The only thing really "wrong" with it was that it had the dreaded clear coat chipping on the roof.

I didn't care much about it, but now about 6 months of ownership, I find myself looking at it quite a bit, and would like to do something about it.

I'd prefer doing it myself, but I haven't done too much with automotive paints. I was wondering if there was other options than just sanding it, painting it and clear coating it?

Are there any products that would hide it? Can I just put a new clear coat? What are my options here?

From my understanding and with working on mine the paint is single stage, meaning it has no clear coat. So a repaint is in order. Even if it had a clear there is really nothing you can do to repair it. And even worse is if you try to "clean/fix/cover" it, would probably make it worse.

Only black, bright red and white are single stage. I am pretty sure you will need to have it professional repaired.
